Description

Nov. 30 1926. 1,608,901
H. R. MILLER CONTAINER Filed April 14, 1926 INVENTOR W HQ. M
ATTORNEY Patented Nov. 30, 1926.
UNITED STATES HARVEY B. MILLER, 01' ALLENTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA.
- CONTAINER.
Application filed 'April 14, 1926. Serial No. 101,938.
My invention relates to removable liner containers for refuse receptacles and it has for its object to provide a container of this character having readily bendable tabs or tongue members at its mouth, the tabs or tongue members being adapted to be bent outwardly and downwardly to engage over the rim of a receptacle and being adapted to be bent over and downwardly in the other direction to clasp the mouth portion of the container to hold the latter closed.
In many places, it is now required that refuse, such as garbage, be wrapped before it is collected. To facilitate wrapping. I have devised an insert container preferably made of paper and which may be readily 'placed in and removed from a suitable receptacle, such as a garbage pail, the insert container being characterized by having attached thereto at its mouth bendable metallic tabs or tongues which serve the double purpose of holding the container open or distended when in the receptacle and of fas tening the mouth portion of the container in closed position when such mouth portion is flattened.
This and other objects are effected by my invention as will be apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a receptacle having my lmproved insert container arranged therein; f
Fig. 2 is a view of the receptacle shown 111 Fig. 1 with the cover removed to showthe insert container:
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the insert container; and
- Fig.4 is a perspectivewiew of the container in closed position.
Referring now to the drawings more in detail, in Fig. 1, I show a. receptacle 10, for example, a garbage pail. having a cover ll.
I provide a bag-like insert container l2 made of any suitable pliable material, for example, paper, for insertion intoand removal from the receptacle 10.
The insert container 12 has secured to the mouth portion 13 thereof a plurality of spaced bendable tabs, tongues, or clips 14,.
preferably made of relatively thin sheet metal. When the bag-like insert container is initially placed in the-receptacle 10, it is dis tended and the tabs or tongues 14 are folded and the tabs or tongues 14 over outwardly to engage over the rim 15 of the receptacle 10; and, as the tabs 01' tongues l i are made of relatively thin sheet metal, the cover 11 may be readily placed on and removed from the receptacle without difliculty.
After the insert container is filled with refuse to a desired extent, the mouth portion 13 is flattened, as indicated in Fig. 4., are folded over alternately in opposite directions to firmly clasp the mouth portion 13. In this connection, I preferably provide an odd number of substantially uniformly spaced tabs or tongues so that the flattened mouth portion may be clasped throughout its extent.
From the foregoing, it will be apparent that I have provided a removable bag-like insert container for receptacles, the container having thin metallic tabs or tongues capable of being folded over outwardly-to engage over the rim of a receptacle to hold the container open and capable of being folded overin the opposite direction to clasp the mouth portion of the container when the latter is flattened. The container may be closed either before or after-removal from its receptacle.
While I have shown my invention in but one form it will be obvious to those skilled in the art that, it is not so limited, but is susceptible of various changes and modifications. without departing from the spirit thereof, and I desire, therefore, that only such limitations shall be placed thereupon as are imposed by the prior art or as are specifically set forth in the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. The combination with an insert container made of pliable material and adapted to be inserted in and removed from a suitable receptacle, of tongues consisting of deshape to which deformed and secured to the mouth end of the container, said tongues beformable material normally maintaining the ing bendable over and downwardly with respect to the rim of the receptacle to hold the container openin the receptacle and. when the mouth portion of the container is flatened to closed position, being bendable over and downwardly to clasp such flattened lic clips normally maintaining the shape to to closed position, being bendable in the .which deformed and secured to the mouth other direction to clasp such flattened mouth 'end of the container, said clips being bendportion. able outwardly to engage over the rim of In testimony whereof, I" have hereunto I 5 the receptacle to hold the container open and subscribed my name this 8th day of April,
distended in the receptacle and, when the 1926.- 1 mouth portion of the container isflattened HARVEY R. MILLER.
