Description

UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIOE.
JAMES H. BAKER AND ASA DONEY, OF SARA'IOGA SPRINGS, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN BED-SlRlNGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 136132, Catcd March 11, 1673.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JAMES H. BAKER and ASA DONEY, of Saratoga Springs, in the county of Saratoga and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bed-Springs; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and
' v and use the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective "iew, and Fig. 2
a longitudinal section, of our invention.
A represents a metal bar, cast with flanges a a, and a hole in the center with a collar or sleeve, b, around said hole, and extendingupward for a suitable distance.
bedsteadby screws passing through holesin the flangesa a. Through the central hole i ithe castingAispasseda Wooden pin, 0, the uppere'nd of which is securely fastened in the center of another casting, B, which is on itsunder side provided with a collar or sleeve, 1), similar to that on the lower casting A, and in which the upper end of the pin 0 fits snugly. D is a spiral spring placed around the wooden pin This casting is secured to the inner side of the side rail of the O, and its ends surrounding the collars I) b, respectively. The end of the bed-slat is to rest on the upper casting B, which, alongits back and ends, is provided with a flange, a, to prevent the slat from sliding off the same. The wooden pin 0 is provided with a head on its lower end, so that the spring cannot draw it up out of the lower casting. This pin acts as a guide to the spring, and always keeps the same in perpendicular position, thereby giving an easy strain upon the spring. The hole and collar on the lower casting A are provided with bushing i, of leather or other suitable material, around the pin (J, so as to stop any noise arising from the pin coming in contact with the iron.
Having thus fully described our invention,
what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The casting A, provided with the flanges a a and sleeve 1), in combination with the bushing 1', wooden pin 0, constructed and arranged as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The casting A, providedwith the flanges a a and sleeve I), in combination with the leather bushing 1', pin 0, spring D, and casting B, all constructed and arranged as and for the purpose herein specified.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own we atfix our signatures in presence of two witnesses. p
