Description

A. W. OBERMANN.
Improvement in Bed-Bottoms. No. 130,858. tented Aug. 27,1872
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
AUGUST W. OBERMANN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN BED-BOTTOMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,858, dated August 27, 1872.
To whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUST W. ()BERMANN, of- Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Self-Fastenin g Bed-Sprin gs and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon and being a part of this specification, in which my invention is shown in perspective and in its relation to a bed-bottom slat, the latter being shown in outline.
This invention relates to an improvement in spiral springs, especially designed for bed-bottoms where it is desired to have the springs removably attached to the slats, said springs being so constructed as to be self-fastenin g.
In the accompanying drawing, A is a spiral spring of the form usually employed in the construction of spring bed-bottoms, except at the lower end, at which point I first form a horizontal projection, J, turning the same into a parallelogram, as shown, or into any other convenient form, which forms a foot to hold the spring in a vertical position, and then carry out the wire and bend it around to come under the slat B and terminate in a spiral coil, 0, at the central vertical line of the spring to form a considerable holding-surface on the under side of the slat. These parts J and 0 press, the former against the upper, and the latter against the under, side of the slat, and hold the spring firmly in position, sothat the spring will not tip in any direction.
I do not broadly claim a spring having its bearing-surface for the upper side of the bar formed into a parallelogram, for this feature is shown in my patent of June 21, 1870; but
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The spring A, having projection J adapted to rest upon the'upper side of the bar, and
coil 0 adapted to bear against the lower side of the bar, as described, for the purpose set forth.
AUGUST W. OBERMANN. Witnesses:
WM. H. LoTz, GEO. FERRIs.
