Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN H. ALLYN, OF WHITESBOROUGH, NEW YORK.
MPROVEMENT IN BED-BOTTOMS.
Speeiectz'on forming part of Letters Patent No. 112,765, dated March 21, 1871.
To all whom tt may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. ALLYN, of Whitesborough, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented certain Im provenients in Spring Bed-Bottoms, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to the combination of slats of wood, and connections or couplings of wood, in such manner that the said slats and connections, when held over springs rcstin g on a frame, shall form a spring hed-bottom 5 the object being to produce a ilexible surface free from lateral motion.
Figure l is a diagram embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the same, with letters of reference indicating` the diii'erent parts.
A A and B B is the frame for supporting the springs and top. C C is the top of the spring bed-bottom, resting on the springs, showing the form and manner of arranging the slats crosswise, also the manner of conneeting the slats by means of the connections, each connection resting on one spring'. D D are the short connections, each one coupling the ends of two cross-slats together, and holding them over one spring, while at the other end the two cross-slats rest, one on each of the side connections resting upon the two adjacent springs. E E are the long connections, one at each end of the top, connecting the ends of three cross-slats together, and holding them over one spring, while at the other end two of ing on the springs and frame, as shown and described, forming a substantial spring bedbottom, cheap and simple in its construction, and adapted for the purpose specified.
I am aware that spring bed-bottoms have been constructed with slats ruiming crosswise, resting on springs and supported by a frame somewhat similar lto mine. Such parts I do not claim.
that I do claim as my invention is- 1. The manner of connecting or tying the crossslats together by means ofthe long and short connections, substantially as shown and described.
2. Holding the ends of three slats over one spring by means of long connections, as shown at E E, also the ends of two slats over one spring by .means of short connections, as shown at D D, substantially as shown and de scribed.
JOHN H. ALLYN.
