[nae/2107 CHI 50/02/2022 697/172 47 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SOLOMON GITLITZ, OF MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA.
HYGIENIC GUSPIDOR.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SOLOMON GrrLrrz, a subject of the King of Great Britain, res ding at Montreal, Province of Quebec,
- Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hygienic Cuspidors; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to cuspidors and has for its object the provision of a device which offers most convenient and effective means for disclosing said cuspidor when use of same is required, and which may be advantageously utilized as an ornamental piece of furniture.
With the above and other objects in view which will hereinafter appear as the description continues, the invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and formation of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended clalm.
In the accompanying drawings has been shown a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details herein exhibited, but the right is hereby reserved to any changes, alterations or modifications to which recourse may be had that come within the scope of the claim without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing the efiiciency of the same.
In the said drawings herewith submitted:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device as 1t stands when all communication or recourse to the cuspidor therein inclosed is eliminated;
Fig. 2 is an end elevation in part section showing the interior of said device and more particularly the mechanism for operating the lid covering the cuspidor;
Fig. 3 is an end elevation in full section showing the interior of the device as well as the position of said mechanism when the lid has been opened thereby;
Fig. 4 is a front elevation in section through line A-B of Fig. 3, with lid opened; and,
I Fig. 5 illustrates one form of the cuspidor which may be used and concealed within said device.
Referring now more particularly tothe ac- Specification of Letters Patent. Pate ted D 7 1920 Application filed March so, 1920.
Serial N0; 369,901.
2. A top portion 3 of said container, in-.
separable therefrom, provides for the adjusting of hinges 4, to which a lid 5 is pivotally connected. The top rigid portion 3 further provides for the adjusting therewith of a hollow post 6 within which a slightly inclined operating lever 7 slidably mounted within a sleeve 8, is pivotally disposed. The lower end 9 of said operating lever rests by gravity on another lever 10 fixedly connected to the pivoting lid 5, the hinges 4 serving as a fulcrum to said lever 10. This lever 10 has the extremity of its power arm formed with a laterally projecting portion 11, of which the interior profile, upon which rests the end 9 of the operating lever 7, is so configurated according to a curve, that it affords constant and effective traveling contact for said end 9 of operating lever 7. Furthermore, said portion 11 of the lever 10 is so constructed and so taken care of in its dimen-.
A cuspidor 12, adapted for location within the container 1, may be removed therefrom, either through the top when the lid is open, or through the side 13; in this case,
the vertical partition 13 is made to be removable or hinged on the bottom of the container or receptacle 1.
The germicide ordisinfecting agents 15, in the accompanying drawings, shown adjusted to the lid 10, are otherwise adapted for location anywhere within the container 1. The lateral partitions forming said container are further provided with ventilating holes 16.
Operatively, the device herein described, being of ordinary hip height, or of any other required height, all that is re uired when the use of the inclosed cuspi or is necessitated, is to apply with thehand, or
applying to the operating lever retaining the open position of the lid, ward pressure.
It will be noted in Fig. 3 of the drawing that the rounded end of the lever 9 engages the rounded'end of the extension at the terminal thereof, when the lever 7 is in its lowermost position. This obviously causes a slight upa binding engagement between the levers 7 and 10 and locks the cover'in raised position, shown in the drawing.
The present device embodying my invention may be designed and constructed in form to suit the configuration and form of any cuspidor for which'an artistic and sanitary concealment is required.
7 Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is nThencombination with a cuspidor, of a container for receiving the latter, a pivoted closure for said container, a lever secured to the lower side of the closure and extending beyond the rear end thereof, said lever having an upwardly curved extension provided thereon, said extension having a rounded end, a vertically movable lever having a rounded'end adapted to engage the curved portion of the extension and by downward pressure upon said lever raise the closure, said lever in its lowermost position engagingthe rounded end of the extension and locking the closure in raised position,
substantially as and-"for the purposes set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand. i
soLoMoN GITLITZ.
