to improvements in that class of invention known as beds and more particularly relates to a folding cot.

The primary aim and object of this invention is to provide a device of the above character which may be readily set up for use or else conveniently folded into a compact form so as to occupy only a minimum amount of space when it is not desired to use the same.

It is an equally important object of this invention to provide a device of the above mentioned character wherein the construction thereof permits of the tightening of the main supporting spring.

More particularly, this invention contemplates the provision of a folding cot. of the above character wherein relatively movable frames are employed for supporting the spring to assure of an efiective tightening of the spring when so desired.

As a further improvement this invention embraces the provision of cooperative supporting legs and bracing means for assuring of an effective supporting of the movable frames. I

A more specific object of this invention includesthe provision of improved tightening means mounted on one of the frames for operating against the other frames to cause the frames to be moved away from each other and held in such position consequently causing the tightening ofthe main spring. It is an additional object of this invention to provide a device of thej'above character which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efiicient in its purpose and in-.

expensive in manufacture.

Other objects will be in part obvious and in parthereinafterset forth. 7

The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, the combination of elements and the arrangement of parts which will be amplified in the construction hereinafter described and the scope of the application of which will beindicated inthe appended claims.

The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the device in an extended or set up position.

Similar characters of reference are employed in all of the above described views to indicate corresponding parts.

Referring now, more particularly, to the accompanying drawings, there is provided superposed relatively slidable frames 1 and 2, the former being of a'rectangular configuration and comprises side bars 3, outer cross bar iconnected adjacent the ends of the side bars, and an inner cross bar 5 connected atthe opposite end of each of the cross bars3, while the lower frame 52 embodies sidebars 6 connected adjacent their outer ends by a cross bar '7. Suitable brackets 8 of a rectangular loop like configuration are connected through the instrumentality of suitable fastening devices 9 to the side bars 6 adjacent the cross bar and also slidably'receive the side. bars 3 while other similarly constructed brackets 10 are connected to the side bars 3 adjacent the cross bard and slidably receive the outer ends of the cross bar 6 positioned beneath the cross bars 3. Cross rods 11 are arranged transversely between the outer ends of the side bars 3'and6 adjacent the outer ends thereof as indicated for a purpose that will presently appear. A Woven wire spring as indicated by the numeral 12 has its respective ends "connected to the upper surfaces of the cross bar 4 of the frame 1 and the cross bar 7 of the fr'ameQ2 through the instrumentality of suitable fastening devices 13.

As intimated, improved tightening means have been provided. In reducing this feature of the invention to practice, bearing plates 14 are connected through the instrumentality 'of suitable fastening devices 15 to the inner surface of the cross bar 7. Openings are provided transversely through the cross bar '5 at points opposite the plates 14-. Other plates 17 are now employed and are formed with centrally threaded openings 18 which are held in alinenient with the openings 16 and connected to the outer face of the bar 5 through the instrumentality of inwardly bent attaching flanges 19 formed on the upper and lower ends of the plates 17 and-engageable with the upper and lower edges of the cross handles or finger pieces 21 formed on the inner ends of the rods are twisted the screw rods 20 will be correspondingly adjusted and cause the frames 1 and 2 to move away from each other thus tightening the spring and inasmuch as accidental retrograde movement is prevented by the construction, it is apparent that the spring will be held in such tightened position.

With a View toward providing the supporting means for the frames, opposed pairs of legs 22 are respectively pivotally mounted at their outer endsthrough the instrumentality, of suitable fastening devices 23 to the inner surfaces of the side bars Gadjacent the cross bar 7 and to the side bars 3 adjacent the cross bar 4. Cross connecting bars 24; have their respective ends connected to the opposed pairs of legs 22 by means of suit able fastening devices 25. Opposed arcuate bracing and supporting members 26 have their lower ends pivotally connected to the inner surfaces of the opposed legs through the medium of suitable pivots 27 and are each reduced on their outer sur faces adjacent the upper end to provide a shoulder 28 designed for hearing against the adjacent cross rods 11 in the frame so as to brace the legs and assure of the proper supporting of the frames. End pieces 29 have their respective ends connected to the inner surface and adjacent the upper ends of the opposed members 26 and when the device is in a set up or extended position as indicated in Fig. 1 these end pieces are arranged above the plane of thespring. It is apparent therefore that the 7 device may be conveniently folded into a compact form when not in use since the legs lie within plane of the lower edges of the side bars of the lower frame while the bracing members are arranged in close relation with the cross bars as indicated.

It is believed in view of the foregoing description that a further detailed description of the operation of the invention isentirely unnecessary. Likewise it is-believed that the advantages of the invention will be readily apparent. v
