parts, may be adjusted so as to be supported in an inclined position at that end of the box (the rear) which is designed to be elevated. The invention comprises a box having a lid hinged to the rear end and which is foldable upon itself to provide a support that will extend back of and under the end of the box which is to be raised.

A preferred embodiment of'the invention is shown in the drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the box, opened and positioned for display.

Fig. 2 is a similar view of the box closed.

Fig. 3 is a similar view of the box with the lid in a transitory position in processof being shifted from one position to an: other.

The box comprises a body a and a lid. The lid comprises members I) and 0. Member 12 is hinged at the upper transverse rear end of the box, is preferably, but not necessarily, unprovided with side wings, and is of a length equaling, approximately, half the length of the box plus one half the depth of the box. The lid member 0 is hinged to the front edge of member I) and has side wings d, d, and a front wing e. The bottom of the box is notched near its rear end of the box body, while the major part of the length of the member 72 extends, in the same plane, below the box body and parallel its end front Wing 6 extends under and against, or close to, the bottom of the box body adjacent its rear Wall. By manipulating thelid back and forth a slight distance on its rear hinge, the free edge of the front wing of the lid member 0 may be engaged with the notch f. I

I prefer to secure and reinforce the vertically extending corners of the box and the similarly extending corners at the front of the lid by means of metal strips 9.

The rear edges of the side wings d may extend obliquely to the top ofthe lid so as to give an appearance of greater stability when the box-is set up for display purposes, but the device will function equally Well if the rear edges of the side wings extend perpendicularly to the top of the lid, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2.

Having now fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to protectby Letters Patent is:

1. A box comprising a body, and a lid composed of two sections one of which is hinged to the body and theother of which is hinged to the first section, length of the two sections approximating the length of the body, the first section being foldable against the rear end of the body so as to extend beneath the body, the

second section being as much shorter than the first section as the box is deep and being foldable back against 'the first section, thereby bringing its free end just under the body.

2. A box comprising a body and a lid, the lid being hinged at the rear of thebody and provided with a front wing, the lid bethe combined ing foldable upon the box body and having a hinged front section of less length than the rear section and adapted to fold under the rear of the box to bring its front wing in opposing relation to the rear of the box bottom.

3. A box comprising a body, a lid section hinged to the transverse upper rear edge of the body, a lid section hinged to the first section and having a front Wing, the first section being longer than the second and the difference between their lengths approximating the depth of the box body, the first section being foldable up, back and down against the rear of the -box body and extending below the bottom of the box body a distance approximating the length of the second lid section, the second lid section being foldable through an arc of about 180 degrees so that it will extend along and in front of the first section and so that its front wing will extend along and under the rear of the box body bottom.

4. A box comprising a body and a lid, the lid being hinged at the rear of the body and provided with a front wing, the lid being foldable upon the box body and upon itself to bring its front wing underneath the box bottom, the bottom of the body being notched to adapt it for locking engagement with the edge of said wing.

5. A box comprising a body and a lid composed of two sections, said sections being hinged together and of a combined length approximating the length of the body, one lid section being hinged to that end of the body which it is desired to elevate for display purposes and being of substantially greater length than the depth of the bodyso as to be movable into position to extend below the end of the box to which it is hinged, the second 'lid section being foldable upon the first lid section into the triangular space between beneath the body and in front of the first lid section.

6. A box comprising a body and a lid hinged to the body and having an end wing, the lid comprising a plurality of sections hin ed one to another, the lid sections being foltlable relatively to the box and to each other to bring said wing in parallelism with and under that end portion of the box bottom which it is desired to elevate and in supporting relation thereto.
