The present invention relates to an improved form of folding box for the storage, shipping and display of articles of all kinds especially pencils.' l The main object of the invention is to provide a simple, compact, rugged box, made of a minimum numberl of parts which are in`- tegrally' connected together so that the whole box can be stamped out in one piece and in one operation.

A further object is to provide a box blank in one piece which can be quickly and-easily assembled so that it will stand alone to display the contained articles, while, at ythe same l5 time, it may be folded into a small space, when not in use, forpurposes of shipping and storage.

Further and more specific objects, features, and advantages will more clearly appear from the detailed description given below taken in connection with the accompanying drawings which form part of the specilica-l tion and which illustrate one embodiment of the invention.

The invention is illustrated in a preferred form in the accompanying drawings. wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the box as standing for display, Figure 2 is a similar view from behind, showing the box partly unfolded, Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view of the box as folded for shipping, Figure 4 is a View of the box-forming blank entirely unfolded and laid fiat, and Figure 5 is a horizontal sectional View of the box as folded for shi ping.

-eferring to Figure 4, it will be seen that, in the preferred form shown, the blank from which the box is formed comprises a plurality of rectangular sections, together with certain tapering auxiliary flaps hereinafter described. These are separated by scored or weakened portions to facilitate folding, as is well known in this art.

At 10 is shown the front section, which is preferably provided with one or more large openings 11,to permit a view of the contents of the box when used.for display.

This section 10 is flanked on each side by side sections 12, outside of these on either side are the two back sections 13 and 14.

The section 14 has a slot 15 and the section 13 has a suitably formed tongue 16, which may be introduced into the slot 15 to lock the 4parts together, when they have been brought into th'position shown in Figure 2. 55

The bottom ends of the side sections are preferably supplied with tapering tabs 17.

At the bottom of the front section 10 is joined the bottom section 18, and beyond this are found the back liningsection 19, the supporting section 20 and the spacing element, preferably comprising the three spacing sections 21, 22 and 23.

The blank thus far described can be folded to form a securely locked open-topped box without thel use of glue or cement, as follows.

Sections"18 to 23L are folded away from the observer in Figure 4 along the scored line between 10 and 18until the bottom section 18 is at right angles to 10, and the lining section 19 is brought parallel to 10.

The tabs 17, being folded on the dotted lines until they lie against the inside of the sections 1`2, these sections and the back sections are foldedback around the lining section 19 into the position shown in Figure 2, when the tongue 16 and slot 15 may be-interlocked as show-n in Figure 3. With the section 19 fiat against the back sections 13 and 14, as in Figure 3, the tabs 17 are folded flat down on the bottom section 18, as in Figure 5.

The box is now complete. If it is to be used for storage or shipping the sections 20, 21, 22 and 23 arefolded iiat against the back as in Figures 3 and 5.

If used for display purposes, the extreme section 23 is tucked in between the bottom of the lining section 19 and the back sections 13 and 14, as shown in Figure 3, while the folding sections 21 and 22 are extended so as 90 to bring the supporting section 20 into an inclined position, to support the box in the position shown in Figure 1.

While I have described my improvement in detail and with respect to a preferred form' thereof, I do not desire to be limited' to such details or form since manyv changes and modifications may be made and the invention embodied in otherl forms without departing from the spirit and s cope of the invention in its broader aspects. Hence I desire to cover all modifications Aand forms coming within the language or scope of any one or more of the appended claims.

lVhat l claim isf 1. A foldable one-piece blank for forming a shipping and display box comprising a front section, back sections associated therewith on opposite sides and adapted to interlock when disposed in operative position, a lining sectionassociated with one edge of the front section and adapted to lie in front ot' the back sections when they are folded into position, and a supporting section connected to the opposite end of the lining section and adapted to lie against the rear face of the back sections when not in use.

A :toldable one-piece blank for forming a shipping and display box comprising a front section, side sections foldably connected thereto on opposite sides,back sections foldablyconnected to the side sections and adapted to interlock when engaged, a bottom section foldably connected to one edge of the front section, and a lining section foldably connected to the bottom section and adapted to lie in front of the back sections when they are in engaged position.

A oldable one-piece blank for forming a shipping and display box comprising a front section, side sections foldably connected thereto on opposite sides, back sections foldably connected to the side sections and adapted to interlock when engaged, a bottom section oldably connected tov one edge of the front section, a lining section foldably connected to the bottom section and adapted to lie in front of the back sections when they are in engaged position, and a supporting section foldably connected to the opposite end of the lining section and adapted to lie against the rear of the back sections when not in use.

A foldable one-piece blank for forming a shipping and display box comprising a front section, side sections foldably connected thereto on opposite sides, back sections foldably connected to the side sections and adapted to interlock when engaged, a bottom secsection foldahly connected to one edge of and form a hole at 8, as shown in Figure nected to the bottom section and adapted to lie in front of the back sections when they are in engaged position, a supporting section foldably connected to the opposite end of the lning section and adapted to lie against the rear of the back sections when not in use, and a plurality of spacing sections connected at one end to the lining section and foldable between the back sect-ions and the lining section when not in use, one end of the spacing sections detachably engaged with the lower end of the back sections.-

A foldable one-piece blank for forming a shipping and display box comprising a front section, side sections foldably connected thereto on opposite sides, back sections foldably connected to the side sections and adapted to interlock when engaged, a bottom section foldably connected to one edge of the front section, a lining section foldably connected to the bottom 'section and adapted to lie in front of the back sections When they are in engaged position, a supporting section foldably connected to the opposite end of the lining section and adapted to lie against the rear of the back sections when not in use, and a plurality of spacing sections connected to one end of the lining section and foldable between the back sections and the lining section when not in use, one of the spacing sections adapted to be tucked in between the lining section and the bottom of the interlocked back sections.
