Description
f U NITED-STATES PATENT GEEIGE.
GEORGE GARDNER, 0E GLEN GARDNER, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN SEWINGMACHINE (JOVERS.V`
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 133,846, dated December 10, 1872.
To all whom it may' concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE GARDNER, of Glen Gardner, in the county of Hunterdon and State of New Jersey, have invented a certain Improvement in Sewing-Machine Covers, of which the following is a specification: The nature of my invention consists in making sewing-machine covers, either in whole or in part, of pasteboard covered upon the outside with wood veneerin g, combining lightness with cheapness of construction and elegance of appearance. l
Figure 1 is an elevation of my improved sewing-machine cover. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section thereof.
The same letters of reference are employed lin both figures in the designation of identical parts.
The cover illustrated inl the annexed drawing is of oblong form with rounded ends. The bodyA is composed of strong pasteboard a, bent into the desired shape, and covered upon its exterior side with woodveneering, b, which is glued or cemented upon it. Midway between the ends the sides of the body A may, if desired, be strengthened by vertical strips 0,
of wood; The top B, as represented, consists y of a leaf of solid wood; but it may be made of pasteboard and wood veneering in manner like the body A. So may the moldings Gand D around the base and top of the body A,
the construction of those in which the bodyis curved, and which have heretofore been made of several laminee of wood veneers glued together to obviate the necessity of bending wood.
What Irelaim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A sewing-machine cover built up, in Whole or in part, of pasteboard,' covered upon the exterior side withwood veneering, substantially-as specified.
In testimonywhereof I have signed my name to the foregoing specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEO. GARDNER..
