UNITED STnTT-is PATENT GFT-Ion ERNST H. ZOEPFEL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN JEWEL-BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 209,848, dated November 12, 1878; application filed April 4, 1878.
To alt whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, ERNST H. ZOEPFEL, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Jewelry-Oase, of which the following is a specification:
rlhe accompanying drawing represents a vertical central section of my improved case for jewelry and silver-ware.
The object of this invention is to furnish for jewelry and silver-ware of all kin ds an improved case, that may be manufactured in cheaper and stronger manner than the present cases with wooden bodies, and bc brought out in neat and ornamental designs.
The invention consists of top and bottoni sections of the case, which are pressed or spun of suitable sheet metal, the top section being perforated to retain the covering, and made with an annular top rim and depressed interior part, for applying the ornamental cap or mounting. The bottom section is made with a central depression for supportin g the exhib- 1ting-block, and closed at the bottom by awood or pasteboard filling.
Referring to the drawing, A represents the top section of my improved case for jewelry and silver-ware, and B the bottom section ot' the same.
The top section is spun or stamped up into round, square, or oblong shape, of suitable sheet metal, and provided with an annular topy rim, a, and a depressed and slightly-convex center portion, c', for securing thereto the cap, cushion, or mounting G, that is glued or otherwise attached thereto. The bottom section, B, is also stamped up in suitable shape, with an exterior molding, b, an annular seat, f1, for thc lower rim of the top section, and a centra-l depressed portion, e, into which the supportin g-blocli D is screwed or retained in other suitable manner.
The hollow space at the under side of the bottom section is closed bya wood, pasteboard, or other filling, E, so as to give a solid appearance to the same.
The top and bottom sections are covered with any suitable fabric-such as leather, silk, velvet, or with celluloid or other composition, the saine being retained thereon by glue or cement, the top section being perforated in suitable manner to admit the passage ot the glue or cement to the holes, so that the saine, when dry, forms a kind of rivet for the covering, and prevents the'sprin ging oli' of the covering by the ininence of the heat.
The interior of the top sect-ion is lined in any suitable manner, preferably by corrugated or uted lining made by suitable machinery.
The top section is connected to the bottom section by suitable hinges and front clasp or catch, and in this manner an elegant, cheap, and durable case for jewelry ot' all kinds obtained.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a metallic case for jewelry and silverware, a stamped or spun top section having an annular top rim or bead, with a depressed center portion within the saine for the ornamental cap or mounting, substantially as shown and described. 2. In a jewelry-case, the metallic top section, A, having perforations or holes, and a leather or ilexible covering glued or cemented thereto, as and for the purpose set forth.
3. In a metallic case for jewelry, a bottom section made of an exterior molding' and depressed center portion, in combination with a bottom tillin g andan exhibitin g-block secured into the depressed center portion, substantially as set forth.
4. In the metallic jewelry-case, a ,spun or stamped bottom section having an exterior molding, an annular seat for the top section, and an interior depressed portion, substantial] y as specified.
ERNST H. ZOEPFEL.
