PICTURE-FRAME .I-IOLDER AND HAN Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 11, 1916. Serial No. 125,025.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Mrs. BETSIE K. Lor- LAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Thief River Falls, in the county of Pennington, State of Minnesota, have 1nvented certain new and useful Improvements in Picture-Frame Holders and Hangers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descriptlon of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a picture frame holder and hanger.
An object of the invention resides in the provision of a device of this character by means of which pictures may be supported on a wall in an inclined position with relation to the wall.
A further object of the invention resides in so constructing the device that the angle of inclination of the picture may be varied at will and so that the various sizes of picture frames may be accommodated.
With these and other objects in view, such as will appear as my description progrosses, my invention comprises the combination and arrangement of parts as set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawing t Figure 1 is a side elevation of a device constructed in accordance with my invention showing a picture frame supported thereby, in dotted lines;
Fig. 2 is a plan view;
Fig. 3 is a front elevation; and
Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail of one of the supporting arms.
The embodiment of my invention illustrated in the drawings includes a base plate 1 which is substantially triangular in form and is provided adjacent one of its corners with an eye 2 and is further provided with an aperture 3 through which a suitable fastening, such as a nail or screw may be inserted to attach the plate to a wall. Extending upwardly from the upper end of the plate is a hook 4; by means of which the plate may be suspended from a picture rail if it is desired to support it in this manner rather than attaching it directly to the wall in the manner before described. An arm 5,
is loosely hinged to the eye 2 and is adapted to extend outwardly from the plate in any desired angular relation thereto. Pivoted to the plate as at 2 adjacent the lower corners of the plate are depending arms 6 and 7. Each of these arms 5, 6 and 7 is formed in two sections which are slidable on each other. The inner end of the outer section is provided with a guide loop 8 which incloses the inner section and slides thereon and is further provided with a plurality of threaded openings 9. The outer end of each of the inner or hinged sections carries a thumb screw 10 which is adapted to engage in any of the openings 9 to maintain the sections in their various adjusted relations. Each of the arms is provided at its outer end with a hook 11 on which an ornamental cap 12 is mounted and the opposite sides of the arms 6 and 7 are provided with pads 13 which are adapted to contact with the wall to prevent abrading or marring of the same.
In use the picture frame, as illustrated in dotted lines in the drawings, rests within the hooks 11 on the arms 6 and 7 which arms are disposed in engagement with the wall. The upper end of the frame is engaged, between its ends, by the hook 11 on the arm 5 so that the frame is maintained in position. It is to be noted that the arms may be adjusted to accommodate frames of various sizes and that they, too, may be adj usted to vary the angle of inclination of the frame, that is to say, by lengthening the arms 6 and 7 or by lengthening the arm 5. It will further be noted that there is carried by each of the hooks 11 a screw 14; adapted to be driven into the picture frame and prevent accidental dislodgment thereof from the hanger.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided a ver simple picture frame holder and hanger w 'ch will support a picture frame in an inclined position and which may be very readily adjusted to accommodate various frames and position them at various angles.
While I have illustrated and described a particular embodiment of my invention it has merely been for the sake of convenience and I do not wish to be limited to this particular embodiment as it is obvious that numerous changes may be made in the de- .B e e en'r- 27 9 1 I tails of construction without departing outer ends provided with hooks to receive from the spirit of the invention or without the (picture frame, and a screw through the exceeding the scope of the claim. ben of each hook adapted to be driven into What is claimed is said frame. 5 A picture frame holder comprising a Intestimony whereof, I aflix my signa- 15 base plate having means for attachment to ture, in the presence of two'witnesses.
