PETER H. FLYNN, QF NEW YORK, N. Y.
PICTURE-FRAME ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 586,120, dated July 13, 1897.
Application iiled March 11, 1897. Serial No. 626,920. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER H. FLYNN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picture-Indicators; and 1 do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has reference to a novel device to be applied to picture-frames and the like and which serves to indicate when the picture is properly hung.
The invention consists in the features of construction hereinafter described and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a front elevation of a portion of the pictureframe provided with this improvement. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of a modified construction embodying this invention.
Referring now to said drawings, 1 indicates a picture-frame, and 2 a iinger that is pivoted thereto and within a slot in the inside of said frame. The upper end of the finger 2 is pointed and extends just above the edge of the rail of the frame when said finger stands at right angles thereto. The said ringer is free to move on its pivot and is provided at its lower end with a weight 3, which serves to hold the pivot in an upright position. It is seen, therefore, that only when the picture is in a perpendicular position will the point of the inger 2 extend above the frame, so that by observing the point it is very easy to detect whether the picture is out of plumb, as well as to set the picture properly without standing away from the same and using merely the eye as a guide.
The invention is extremely inexpensive and simple and provides a sure and convenient manner in which to set a picture.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A picture-frame having a pivoted pointer secured to one of the horizontal rails thereof, said pointer having a weighted lower end.
2. A picture-frame having a slot in one of the horizontal rails thereof and a pivoted pointer situated within said slot and provided with a weighted lower end, the upper end of said pointer being of such length that it stands even with the upper edge of the rail when said pointer is at right angles thereto.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification inthe presence of two subscribing witnesses.
PETER H. FLYNN.
