CARL E. JOHNSON, OF QUINCY, MASSACHUSETTS.
PICTURE-FRAME SUPPORT.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL E. JOHNSON, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Quincy, in the county of Norfolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Picture- Frame Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to picture frame supports, and one of the principal objects of the same is to provide a device of simple construction for the'purpose of giving the desired inclination or slant to picture frames, mirrors or other hanging objects of similar character.
Another object of the invention is to provide a picture frame support which can be quickly adjusted to give any required slant to the picture and which will be entirely out of sight from the front of the picture.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation, showing my picture frame support in use. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the picture frame support disconnected, the supporting cord clamp being shown in dotted lines in disengaging positlon. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section on the line 33 of Fig. 2, showing the cord clamp in engaging position. Fig. 4t is a transverse sectional View on the line 4l1 of Fig. 2, looking in the direction indicated by the arrows.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a picture frame provided at the back with the usual screw eyes 2 and sus pended from the wall by means of the cord 3 engaging the molding hook 4, the upper end of which is supported upon the molding 5 in the usual manner. In order to give the proper slant or inclination to the picture I have provided an adjustable frame support comprising a base plate 6 having openings 7 8 and 9 therein. Pivoted at 10 to the base plate 6 is a cord clamp 11, said cord clamp having a hook 12 'at its outer end adapted to engage the lower edge of the picture frame, while the upper end of the cord clamp 11 is Specification of Letters Patent.

bent inwardly, as at 13, to form a bearing member to clamp the cord. The bearing member 13 is beveled, and at one side eX- tends slightly away from the base member 6 so that the cord will be wedged in between the bearing member 15 and the base plate 6 when the clamp is turned into alinement with the base member 6. The cord 14 is supported at its upper end in the molding hook 4:, as at 15, said cord extending down through the opening 7 and out through the opening 8 and under the clamp 11. The terminal end 16 of the cord may be passed through the opening 9 out of the way.
The operation of my invention may be briefly described as follows :The supporting cord 14: is pulled through the base memher 6 until the picture frame is at the required slant or inclination, said cord being held in adjusted position by means of the clamp 11. The hook 12 engages the frame at the lower edge and supports the latter at any required slant or inclination.
My invention is of simple construction, can be manufactured at slight cost, can be used to support picture or mirror frames at any required inclination irrespective of the sizes or Weights of the same, and the various adjustments can be quickly made after the picture has been suspended from the wall, the entire device being out of sight.
I claim 1. A picture frame support comprising a base plate, and a cord clamp pivotally connected to the base plate and provided at one end with a beveled end, a hook at the opposite end adapted to support the picture frame, and a supporting cord secured to the base plate by means of the clamp, said cord being suspended from the picture frame hook.
2. A picture frame support comprising a supporting cord, a base member provided with openings for the cord, the opposite end of which is connected to the picture hook, a cord clamp pivotally mounted upon the base member, and a hook on said cord clamp adapted to support a picture frame.
3. A picture frame support comprising a lower end of the cord clamp to support the,
supporting cord, a base plate having openpicture frame. 10 ings therein for the supporting cord, said In testimony whereof I affix my signature cord being adapted for connection at its in presence of two witnesses.
upper end to a picture frame hook, a cord CARL E. JOHNSON. clamp pivoted to swing out of alinement Vitnesses:
with the base member, said cord clamp hav- GRACE E. JOHNSON,
ing a beveled upper end, and a hook at the WILLIAM J. DOILEY.
