ATTACHMENT FOR PICTURE-FRAMES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 21, 1911.
Patented Apr. as, 1912. Serial No. 667,068.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES H. ANDREWS, a citizen of the United States, residing at lVashington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Picture- Frames; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an improvement in picture or other frames, or any article to be hung from a support.
Much inconvenience is experienced in properly hanging picture frames having the usual supporting wire because of the necessity occasioned in first detaching from and then reattaching to the frame one end of the wire whenever it is desirous of changing the relative position of the picture with relation to its support.
The principal object of this invention is to provide a picture frame having a supporting wire loosely attached thereto and adapted to engage any one of a number of hooks carried by said frame, whereby the supporting wire may be quickly and easily adjusted without the necessity of first detaching and then attaching one end of said wire.
Another object of the invention is to provide a single length of metal having a plurality of hooks formed thereon which can be readily attached to or detached from any picture frame or other article desired to be hung.
A further object of the invention is to provide an attachment for picture frames for the purpose described which is extremely simple in construction, it being composed of a relatively small number of parts, and is therefore cheap to manufacture.
WVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended; it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction within the scope of the claim may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the application of my invention, parts thereof being shown in section, and Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of a picture frame constructed in accordance with my invention.
Like reference numerals designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawing.
Referring to the drawing, 5 designates a wall or the like, and 6 a nail or any other suitable support attached thereto.
A picture frame or the like is designated as a whole by the reference letter A, and this frame includes the usual side bars 77 and upper and lower bars 8 and 9 respectively. Secured to the upper portion of each side bar 7 and preferably near the center of said bar is a screw-eye 10 or any other suitable form of guide, and a similar screw-eye or guide 11 is also secured to the lower end of each side bar 7 said eyes be ing secured to the rear face of the bars. An endless supporting cord 12 is arranged to freely move within the eyes 10 and 11, and is of such a length as to normally eX tend considerably above the upper bar 8 of the frame.
My invention further comprises an attachment for the frame which is adapted to permit of the cord 12 being taken up to thereby adjust the relative position of the frame with respect to its support. This attachment is designated by the reference letter 13, and is formed from a single strip of preferably fiat metal. This strip is bent to form a plurality of outwardly and upwardly extending hooks 13. The strip is centrally disposed between the side bars 7 of the frame, and has its ends respectively connected to the upper and lower bars 8 and 9 of said frame by means of tacks 14 or other suitable attaching means. It will thus be observed thatwhenever it is desired to adjust the position of the frame with respect to the support 6, the cord 12 intermediate the lower eyes 11 is engaged over any one of the hooks 13 of the strip B, as will be readily understood from Fig. 2 of the drawing. It will also be observed that by means of this attachment, the frame may be adjusted to a nicety with respect to its support, and in a few moments of time.
WVhat is claimed is:
