To and whom it may concern;

Be it known that I, MARY TALES GLOVER, of Newton, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Devices for Placing or Removing Picture or Similar Hooks and Hanging and Removing Pictures, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in explaining its nature.

The invention comprises a holder of peculiar construction mounted upon the end of a rod or pole and adapted to receive and hold a picture or similar hook and to place the hook upon a molding or other support, and also adapted to receive the hook while upon said molding or support and remove it therefrom. This holder is preferably combined with two curved arms upon its back side, separated from each other and upon the same plane, which are adapted to be used in placing and removing portiere, curtain, and other poles, and the upper ends of these arms are preferably provided with branches to form holders for receiving and holding a picture cord or wire, and by which it may be placed upon a picture or other hook or support and removed therefrom.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a view in elevation of my improved device mounted upon the end of a pole. Fig. 2 is a view in vertical central section thereof. Fig. 3 is a View in perspective thereof, looking toward its back.

The hook holder or support A comprises a base a, which preferably extends horizontally across the upper end of the Socket-piece a or other means for attaching the holder to the end of a pole a This base a has the upwardly-curved front section a and the back section a, from a portion of which there extends upward the inclined back a, from the side edges of which extend forward the wings a 0.

The holder receives a picture-hook as represented in Figs. 1 and 2, that is, the lower part of the hook rests upon the base within the section a and the front of the hook near the top rests against the back a near the top, the portion 17 of the hook, which hooks onto the molding or other support, extending forward therefrom. The hook is not attached to the holder,

but Simply rests therein, the inclination of the back preventing itfrom tipping forward, while the wings a prevent it from sliding Sidewise as it is being moved and placed. The back a between the wings is of sufficient width to provide space for the reception of all ordinary sizes of picture-hooks. The base a and back a are extended for the purpose of providing a relatively wide support for the arms 0 O, which project downwardly from the rear side thereof near or at each end and then upwardly, as represented in the drawings. This construction separates the arms 0 O by a considerable space, and they preferably are upon the same level, and they are of a size to receive curtain and portiere poles of ordinary construction, and they are adapted to place such poles upon their supports or to remove them therefrom. The outer end of each arm has a recess D of a size to receive and hold a wire or cord, the said recess preferably being formed by extending outward a section d of the outer end of each arm, whereby the inner curve of the arm at its outer end is not broken into. The object of these recesses is to receive and hold picture cord or wire while it is being applied to a hook or other support or removed therefrom.

I prefer that the arms and the hook-holder and socket or other piece a be made of one casting, preferably of malleable iron, but do not confine myself to this construction.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States 1. A device for placing and removing picture and similar hooks, having the base a, the front section a the relatively wide inclined back a and the wings a a and means for attaching it to the end of a pole.

2. A device comprising the long base-section a and back a, the curved front a the inclined back a and wings a, a the curved arms 0, '0 extending from the ends of the base-section and back. as specified and integral therewith, and recesses D in their outer ends and means for securing the device to a pole or other support.
