Description

H. B. TAYLOR.
FASTENING DEVICE.
APPLICATH'N FILED Nov.26. 191s.
Patented Sept. 2,1919.
m van/0r Henry B. Tay/or FASTENING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 2, 1919.
Application filed November 26, 1918. Serial No. 264,282.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY B. TAYLOR, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and resident of the city of Montreal, in the Province of Quebec and Dominion of Canada, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Fastening Devices, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in fastening devices, and particularly to a device for hanging pictures, picture frames and the like.
In the drawings which illustrate the invention;-
Figure 1 is a side view of a-hanger secured to a wall.
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing a slightly modified form of hanger.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the supporting hanger showing the bent-over loops for the pins.
Fig. 4 is a perspective View of a modified form of hanger.
Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 4, showing a further slightly modified form.
The invention consists essentially of a supporting bracket comprising a hanger strap bent over at the ends into loops or eyes for the reception of pins which project in opposite directions, one pin being adapted for insertion into a wall, post or the like and the other pin being adapted to be secured to the back of a picture or picture frame.
Referring to the drawings, 5 designates a supporting member comprising a metal strap having its ends bent over to form retaining loops 6 for the insertion of pins or nails. One of the pins 7 is inserted through the loop at the top of the supporting member and is adapted to be shoved or driven into a wall, post or the like. The other pin 8 is inserted through the loop or eye at the bottom of the supporting member but in the opposite direction from the pin 7 and is adapted to be shoved into the picture, picture frame or the like 13, shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 5. The pins or nails are provided with suitable heads 9 to prevent them from slipping entirely through the loops.
In Fig. 2, I have shown the supporting strap or hanger 5 bent or stamped with a knee or projection 10 which is adapted to lie against the back of the picture frame, the
top nail being driven into the wall in a slanting direction, as shown. The projecting knee thus holds the top of the picture or frame away from the wall on which it is hung, so that instead of resting in an approximately vertical position, it may be tilted toward the wall if desired.
In Fig. 4, I have shown a modification of the hanger in which the metal strap is bent over at its center, the sides being closed together in parallel relation to form a double support. Near the lower end the two sides of the strap are bent outwardly away from each other to form two legs 11. The extremities of these legs are bent over to form eyes or loops 6 for the insertion of a pair of pins 12 adapted to be shoved into the picture frame. The upper end of the strap, where it is bent double, is provided with a loop or eye for the insertion of the pin 7 oppositely disposed from the pins 12 to be driven into the wall. The double pins in the picture frame enable it to be held more firmly and steadily in position.
In Fig. 5, I have shown a further slight modification of the hanger in Fig. 2, the strap being bent or curved slightly but not provided with such a decided projection as the knee 10. This illustration shows, however, how the top of a picture may be hung a considerable distance outwardly from the wall, so that the picture may be tilted within limits at the angle desired.
The device is simple and inexpensive to make and will enable pictures or frames to be hung with the greatest ease and rapidity.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A fastening device comprising a. metal strap having loops or eyes at the opposite ends of same, and pins inserted through said loops in approximately parallel relation but in opposite directions, the loops and pins extending substantially in the plane of the width of said strap.
2. A fastening device comprising a metal strap bent to form a knee or projection at one side, the ends of said strap being bent over to form loops or eyes, and pins projet-ting through said loops in opposite directions, the loops and pins extending sub stantially in the plane of the width of said strap.
3. A fastening device comprising a metal rr 1; sra'rns PATENT oFFroE.
strap bent double for a portion of itslength pins inserted in said loops in the opposite and provided with an eye or loop-at the top direction from the pin at the top of the for the insertion of a pin adapted to be fastener. 10 forced into a Well, the lower ends of the In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set strap being bent outwardly away from each my hand.
other to form two legs, the extremities of which are provided With loops or eyes, and HENRY B. TAYLOR.
