Description
W. E. THOMSON. SCRAPER FOR CLOTHES BRUSHES. APPLICATION men MAR 10, 1917'.
1,337,856. I Patented Apr. 20,1920.
William Thomson UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM E. THOMSON, OE JACKSONVILLE, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ALBERT G. BALDWIN, 0F JACKSONVILLE, ILLINOIS.
SGRAPER FOR CLOTHES-BRUSHES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 20, 1920.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I,W1LLIAM E. THoMsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jacksonville, in the county of Morgan and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scrapers for ClothesBrushes, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in brushes.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a scraper for clothes brushes by means of which dirt or other foreign substances can be readily removed from the clothes of the user.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a clothes brush having a scraper attached thereto and means provided upon said scraper whereby the brush can be supported or suspended from a hook, nail or the like.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a scraper attachment for brushes which will be comparatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture, reliable and eflioient in use, and readily operated, it 1 being understood in this connection that various minor changes in the specific details of construction can be resorted to within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit, or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention, and while in the present application the scraper is shown applied particularly to a clothes brush, it is to be also understood that I am not to be limited to said use alone of the device, but may apply the same to any other form of brush or in fact any other article to which the various parts thereof will adapt themselves.
In the drawings;
Figure 1 is a plan view of a portion of a brush with the scraper secured thereto, and
Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the scraper removed from the brush.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view of a portion of a brush with the scraper applied thereto.
Referring now more particularly to Fig. 2 of the drawing the scraper 16 is constructed somewhat similar to the above described scraper 10 with the exception that the opening 15 is dispensed with and diametrically opposed notches 17 are provided in the opposite outer edges of the scraper in order that the brush may be suspended between two members of a suitable support.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing the solid brush body 18 is provided in its outer end with a transversely disposed horizontal recess 19 in which the inner edge of a flat rectangular scraper projects and exceeds the transverse dimensions of the brush body, consequently when in applied position, the opposite side edges thereof protrude beyond the longitudinal side edges of the brush body.
Provided on and integral with the extended side edges of the scraper and twisted at opposite corners thereof are longitudinally extending cars 21, apertured for the reception of fastening elements for securing the scraper in the recess of the brush body, and securing the ears to the opposite longitudinal side edges of the brush body.
Having thus fully described the invention what is claimed is;
The combination with a brush having a body formed with a transverse recess in one of its ends provided with a straight wall extending from one side of the brush to the opposite side, of a scraper, said scraper comprising a fiat rectangular plate exceeding the transverse dimensions of said body and provided with a straight back edge, integral apertured ears formed on and twisted at opposite corners extending in a longitudinal direction to the surface of said plate and with respect to the body permitting said ears to engage with opposite longitudinal edges of the body, and means insertible in the apertures of the ears for securing the scraper transversely of said body and within the recess with the straight back edge of the scraper contacting with the straight wall of the recess.
In testimony whereof I afi'ix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM E. THOMSON.
Witnesses:
