Description

A. LICHTENSTEIN.
WIRE SCRAPING TOOL.
APPLICATION FILED 050.2, 1918.
Patented Apr. 20, 1920.
2am am W5 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALEXANDER LICHTENSTEIN, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
' WIRE-SCRAPING TOOL.
Application filed December 2, 1918.
To aZZ whom it may com-em Be it known that I, ALEXANDER LICHTEN- STEIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vire- Scraping Tools, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to wire scraping tools designed for removing covering therefrom.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of this class having means for rigidly securing it to a support so that the wire may be easily scraped.
Another object is to provide a device of this character having wire receiving notches of varying widths for use in connection with different gage wires.
Vith the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 represents a' front view of a wire scraper constructed in accordance with this invention;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof;
Fig. 3 is a front view showing a slightly different form of the invention; and
Fig. 4 is a transverse section taken on the line l--4L of Fig. 3.
In the embodiment illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, the tool constituting this invention comprises a plate 1 tapering toward its lower end with a laterally extending arm 2 projecting at right angles from said end and which carries a vertically disposed clamping screw 3 having the usual actuating head l. Extending laterally from plate 1 at the enlarged or head portion thereof is a shelf-like member 5 which is designed to rest on the top of the support to which the device is to be attached and the screw 3 to extend below said support, so that the scraper may be securely and rigidly clamped to the support, which would ordinarily be a shelf or table.
The head of plate 1 is provided with a plurality of longitudinally alined scraping Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 20, 1920.
Serial No. 265,026.
fingers 6 spaced apart varying distances to form wire-receiving sockets 7 so that wires ofdifferent sizes may be scraped. These fingers 6 have their side edges beveled to form cutting blades 8 so that when a wire is passed into the sockets 7 and drawn through them, the covering carried thereby will be scraped off by the beveled edges of the cutting fingers or blades 6. At the end of the series of blades is shown a V-shaped notch 7' which is designed for use in connection with large-sized wires.
In the form shown in Figs. 3 and 4., a plate 9 substantially rectangular in form is shown having a plurality of screw-receiving apertures 10, for connection to a suitable support. A shelf-like member 11 projects laterally at right angles from the inner face of this plate 9 at a point above the apertures 10 and is designed to rest on a table or shelf and is preferably provided with apertures 12 to permit its being fixed to said shelf by screws or other suitable fastenings.
The upper edge of the plate 9 is provided similarly to the head or plate 1 with a plurality of longitudinally alined cutting blades or fingers 6 which are exactly like those in the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and are similarly spaced and beveled for the same purpose.
The notches or sockets 7 as above described have their edges beveled to provide cutting knives, the bevel preferably extending at an angle of about forty-five degrees, as shown in Fig. 4, so as to cause it to cut into the covering and scrape the same from the wire.
By fixing this improved device to a support and holding it stationary thereon, the
.wire to be scraped may be inserted in any one of the notches or sockets T and the covering removed with facility, and if desired a plurality of wires may be scraped simultaneously. The wires are inserted in the notches from the back of the plate 1 and pulled forwardly so that the cutting edges will be most effective. T
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the advantages of the construction and of the method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains; and while I have described the principle of operation of the invention together with the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made as are within the scope of the claimed invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claimas new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A wire scraping tool comprising a plate having its edge divided into a plurality of variously spaced teeth each tooth of the same Width, and one relatively broad end tooth provided with a V-shaped notch in its extremity.
2. A wire scraping tool of an integral structure comprising a blade portion divided into a plurality of variously spaced teeth, an integrally depending portion neath the support, said extension having a vertical threaded aperture, and a screw inserted in said aperture to engage the under side of the support.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALEXANDER LICHTENSTEIN.
