Wihwasesz WM 5M. 6 www UNITED STATES THOMAS LINCOLN, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN MACHINES FOR FITTING THE FRONTS 0F BOOTS AND GAITERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 133,306, dated November 19, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS LINCOLN, of St. Louis city and county, State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement for Fitting the Fronts of Boots and Gaiters to their Tops; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention is the construction of three pieces of metal plates, so as to connect the fronts and tops of boots and gait ers together in a neater manner and with more saving of material and labor than in the ordinary way, by means of the metal plates so arranged with reference to each other.
Figure l in the drawing shows a sectional side view of my invention; Fig. 2 shows a top "iew of my invention and Fig. 3 shows the parts A and B. 1
A is a metal plate, and has an angle edge. This is made attachable to the under plate F. B is a plate standing at right angles with the plate A, and made rounding likethe upper lobes of a human heart, and made fast to a cross-piece, which is attached to the screw 0.
H is a nut, through which the screw 0 runs. at d are small uprights on the heavy plate F, so the plate B may be run up and down. The plate A is made attachable, so it can be removed by taking out the pin K. The plate A is taken out, so that the boot can be removed from the machine. E is a wheel, made fast at the top to the screw, to turn the same by.
. To use my invention, you can take the front of the boot and place it on the plate A, with its paste on it, and the leg of the boot, with its paste on the plate F and under the plate B, in the proper place. Then screw the screw down, and the plate B will pass down with its lobes on each side of the plate A, and will crimp as it goes down, and when it gets down it will press the pieces together.
What I claim as new, and for which I ask Letters Patent to'be granted me, is-
In a machine for fitting the fronts of boots and gaiters, the combination of the plates A, B, and F with the screw 0, as described, and for the purposes set forth.
THOMAS LINCOLN.
