Description

No. 102,332. PATBNTED APR. 26, 1870,
0. H.'THOMPSON. DIE FOR MAKING THRESHING MACHINE TEETH.
I. m a.

UNITED PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES H. THOMPSON, OF ALLIANCE, OHIO.
IMPRGVED DIE FOR MAKING THRASHING-MAQHINE TEETH.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 62,332, dated April 26. 1870.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, CHARLES H. THOMP- SON, oi Alliance, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dies for Making Threshing-Machine Teeth; and I do hereby declare that the'following is a full and complete description of the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
Figures 1 and 2 are side views of the dies. Fig. 3 is a view of the face of each die, showing the matrix therein. Figs. 4 and 5 are views of a tooth. v
Like letters of reference refer to like parts in the difierent views.
The object of this invention relates to a pair of dies for forging thrashing-machine teeth, the face of the dies having therein a rudimentary and finishing matrix, of the size and shape or the tooth, in which the iron for the tooth is placed, and therein receives definite shape.
In Fig. 1, A represents the upper die, and B the lower one. The relative positions of the two dies-to each other are as shown in the drawings. The upper die is operated by a trip, whereas the lower one is stationary;
and the practical use of them is as follows A piece of iron of the proper size for atooth is placed, while hot, in the rudimentary matrix G. On the descent of the upper corresponding die A, the iron receives from the .dies the peculiar shapo shown in Fig. 4. This rudimentary tooth is now immediately placed in the matrix D edgewise,as shown in Fig. 4,
and from the influenceot' the two'dies recoives its full con figuration or shape. (Shown iii-Fig. 5.)
By this means the work of manufacturing the teeth is greatly facilitated, and the teeth are not only made much heater and more perrudimentary matrix, C, and finishing-matrix D, for forging thrashing machine teeth, in the manner substantially as described and set forth.
