SASI-I-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
r Patented Jan.13, 1920.
Applicatinn filed May 19, 1919. Serial no. 298,153.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEMUEL O. ANDnRsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Miami, in the county of Dade and State of Florida, have invented a new and useful Sash-Fastener, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to window sash fasteners and has as its principal object to provide a window sash fastener which will retain the sash in any adjusted raised position and which will obviate rattlingor vibration of the sash with respect to the w1ndow frame.
A second object of the invention is to provide a sashfastener of this type which will positively retain the window in raised position and, at the same time, dispense with pulleys, weights, et cetera, that are commonly used.
Another object of the invention is to provide a sash fastener which is durable and which can be used in connection with any window sash construction without necessitating the defacing of either the sash or the window frame.
Another general object of the invention is to provide a window fastener having the above characteristics which is simple in construction, which consists of few parts, and which may be manufactured and placed on the market at a minimum cost.
With the above and other objects and advantages in mindthe invention consists of combinations of elements, constructions and arrangements, operations and general assemblage, the details of which will be hereinafter set forth inthe appended claim, one embodiment of the invention being illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure l is a view partly n section and partly in elevation showing a window construction having my improved fastener 'associated therewith; r
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary sectional view of one of the side rails of the sash and the adjacent part of the sash frame showing my improved fastener applied thereto, the fastener being shown in longitudinal cross section; and
Fig. 3 is an elevation taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2. L
Referring to the drawing, wherein like characters of reference designate like parts on all of the views, the numeral 5designates a vertically movable sash while 6 designates one of the side rails of the window frame having a recess 7 extending transversely therethrough and opening upon. its
face which is opposed to the inner longitu=- dinal face ofthe window sash.
My improved fastening device comprises a cylinder or barrel 8 open at both ends which is seated in the recess 7. Formed on the inner end of the cylinder or barrel and de-' tachably conect'ed therewith is the plate 9 which is secured to'the' window frame by.
fastenings 110 Longitudinally movable in the barrel or cylinder 8 is a plunger or head 11 which is formed with forwardly projecting bearing arms 12 between whlch is mounted a rotatable roller 13 having its periphery formed I with ribs or corrugations 14. A corrugated or toothed plate 15 is secured to the window sash and extends longitudinally thereof and is adapted to be traversed by the roller 13 during the lowering and raising of the sash.
The roller 13 is adapted to frictionally engage the sash and retain the same in raised position. In orderv to retain or project'the roller into engagement with the corrugated plate an expansible coil spring 16 is prothe cylinder or barrel 8'.
It will be manifest that the eXpansible spring will force the roller against the corrugated plate of the sash into a position as to retain the'sash in any raised position, the teethor corrugations on both the wheel and plate aiding the spring in this function, and that the sash will at all times be held against vibration.
The embodiment of the invention herein shown and described is considered the preferred construction, but it will be understood that the same may be modified in many respects, and that my limits of such modification are governed only by what is claimed.
What is claimed is A sash fastener comprising a face plate having means of anchoring the same and having a central slot, a tubular casing havingv both ends open and having one end provided with outturned apertured ears detachably connected. to the'plate, saidcasing'having its inner end bent inwardly to form a. shoulder, an apertured disk abutting said shoulder, a
hollow tubular plunger snugly fitting Within the casing having an inner end Wall and open at its outer end, said plungerhaving integral bearings extending from the edge thereof at diametrically opposite points, a roller journaled therein and projecting through the slot and an expansible spring in the casing between the end Wall of the plunger and the disk and tending to force the roller to a projecting position.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
LEMUEL O. ANDERSON. Witnesses:
