Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented July 7, 1908.
Application med october 1s, 190s. serial No. 339,222.
citizen of the United States, residingin the citI and countyv of Denver and State of (o orado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Stops; andI do declare the followin f to-be a full, clear, and exact description o the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which 1t appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figuresof reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relatesto improvements in stops or holding devices for window sash, whereby the sash may be held in any desired position of adjustment, but at the same time may be easily moved either up or down.
My improved device comprises a spring actuated pin mounted in the frame adapted to protrude therethrough into a groove formed in the sash and normally engaging a plate which is mounted on said frame, the
bottom"of this groove having a wave-like corrugated suiface, while the engaging extremity of the pin is rounded or curved, thus allowing the sash to be moved u or down as will be readily understood. uring the movement .of the sash it is evident that the pin has a reci rocating action due to the engagement of t ie bottom of the groove therewith.
Having briefly outlined my improved construction as well as the function itis intended to perform, I will proceed to describe the same in detail reference being made to the accompanying drawing in which is illustrated an embodiment thereof.
In this drawing, Figure 1 is a front view of -a window sash and frame equipped with my improvements and shown partl in section. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary sectiona view shown on a larger scale. Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a face view of the frame looking `from the inside with the sash removed.
The same reference characters indicate the sanieparts in all the views.
Let the numeral 5 designate the sash as a whole; 6 vthe side rails thereof; and 7 the window frame. In each side'of this frame ,is inserted a casing 8 havin flanges 9 through which screws 10 are passe for t e purpose of securing the casing to the frame. This casing is open to receive the stop -pin 12 which is surrounded .by a coil spring 13 one extremity of which en rages a Vshoulder formed in `the casing, w ile the other eit-` tremit acts upon a circular rib or collar 14 forme on the pin near its outer extremity. This pin is normally locked in place in the case by means of an outer late 15 secured to the flanges 9 of the casin liy rivets 16. The plate 1'5 is rovided wit i a central opening through which the operating extremity l1!A of the stop pin protrudes to engagement with the corrugated surface of a late 17 inserted in a groove l8 formed in tie sash rail 6.
The framemay bere uipped with dustexcludinf strips 19 attached thereto on opposite si es and overlapping the division between the-sash and frame. The corrugated plate 17 is secured to the sash by screws 20 or other suitable fastening devices.
From. the foregoing description the use and operation of my lmproved device will be readily understood. Assuming that the device is applied to the frame and sash as illustrated in the drawing and heretofore described, it is evident that the sash may be raised or lowered at will and that the sto pin 12^ will retain the sash in any desire position of ad 'ustment l-Iaving thus described my invention, what I claim is:
In a 'device of the class described, the combination of acasing adapted to be inserted in the window frame adjacent the sash, a lpin inserted in said casingA and provided wit 1 a shoulder, a coil spring surrounding the pin and acting on the shoulder to force the latter outwardly throu h an opening in the casino, and a plate app ied to the casing exterior-ly and having anopening for the outer extremity of the pin, the said plate normally engaging the shoulder of the pin exteriorly, and a corrugated plate adapted to be attached to the sash and enga e the outer extremit of the stop pin whic is rounded or curve to facilitate the movement of the sash, substantially as described.
In testimon whereof I affix my signature in presence o two witnesses.
MILTON M. BAGBY.
