To all whom it may conce/ra.'
.Be it lrnown that l, HARRY L. CAMPBELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sunrise, in the county of liaramie and State of ldlyoming, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shade-Attaching Devices, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a novel construction of fastening devices by which a window shade is attached to the roller, and also to the formation of the roller itself for use with the fastening device.
The invention resides in the construction, combination and operative arrangement of parts set forth in the following description and falling within the scope of the ap pended claim.
ln the accompanying drawing: Figure l is a side view of the roller, Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view through the same, Fig. is a perspective view of the preferred form of the holding or fastening device, Fig. 4t is a view of the roller with the shade attached by the said holder, and Fig. 5 is a sectional view through the same, taken upon an enlarged scale and also approximately upon the line 5-5 of Fie. 4l.
In carrying out my invention l provide an ordinary shade roller l with a longitudinally extending groove or channel 2 and also with a longitudinally extending slot 3 which is arranged in a plane with one of the longitudinal walls or edges provided by the groove 2, and which is arranged tangentially of the axial plane of the roller.
The numeral ldesignates the shade attaching member. The member l is constructed, preferably, from some light thin metal and comprises a cross sectionally curved or arcuate body portion 5 which is provided upon one of its sides with a longitudinally arranged angular flange 6. The body 5 of the member l is adapted to be received within the groove or channel 2 of the roller l, and the angular llange 6 of said member d is adapted to be received within the slot 3 of the said wall. The member 4L is of a length corresponding with the length of the groove and slot of the roller, and the body 5 of the member l is of a thickness less than the depth of the groove 2, and also the angular flange G of the said member does not fully close the slot when the member l is positioned upon the roller, the spaces thus provided being compensated :for by the thickness of the shade 7, so that when the shade is arranged upon the roller and compressed within the slot. d between the angular flange 6 and the remaining portion of the shade arranged below the body 5, the said body will agree with the cross sectional curvature of the roller l without forming an obstruction to the roller. The body 5 of the member -l is provided with a plurality of perform tions 8, all of which being adapted for the reception of securing elements such as tacks Q. .lt is of course, to be understood that the metal from which the attachment 4 is constructed, provides a certain amount of resiliency so that when the curtain is secured upon the said body, a tension is exerted between the flange 6 and the longitudinal edge of the body 5 which engages with the longitudinal wall provided by the groove 2 opposite to the slot 3.
From the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be noted that a shade may be easily and quickly arranged in a proper position on a roller and effectively secured thereto without danger oi accidental displacement or of the withdrawal of the securing` members for the shade, by a violent pull upon the shade.
Having thus described the invention, what l claim is:
In a fastening for attaching shades to rollers, a roller having a channel which extends the longitudinal length of said roller, the roller being further provided with a slot which is disposed at one of the ends of the channel and which. is arranged tangentially of the axial plane of the roller, a shade fastening member constructed of resilient material and embodying a cross sectionally curved body which is adapted to be reoeived Within the groove of the roller, the said body having one of its ends provided with a downturned angular flange which is adapted to be received Within the slot and which is further adapted to exert a tension to force trie opposite edge of the member into engagemel with one of the Walls provided by the channel, and securing elements for sustaining the body Within the Channel and upon the roller. l@
In testimony whereof a'fx my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
