Specification oi IllettcrsPatent. V Patented. Dec; 16,1919,
- Application filed January 8,1919. Se'ria'l nannies;
To q'Zl- 'wlrom it concern:
Be it known-thatl, Isaac E. Pincers, a citizen ofithe United States, residing at Wahooy in the county of; Saunders and State 'otfNebraska, have inventedv certain new and useful Improvementsin Filing-Cases; of
which the following is a specification,- r 'eference: being had to the. accompanying draw- 1n i h-i'si invention relatesto certain improvements' filing cases, and itisanebject of the invention to provide-a deviceof this or thelike may be readily inserted threin so that the; same may be filed or" stored with convenience and facility.
Ibis: also an object oirthe invention to provide awnovelfand improved device's-t this general: character which serves toeffectively' protect thearticlcsipilaced therein, and
- whiclrpartioulhrly' serves to preventthe contents of the case from becoming dustd aden.
It is also object of thezinvention to provideancve'l andiimproved case of 1s eneral character provided with a hinged lid on covering; whereinisaid lid or cover is connected with the. body of the case in a manner wherehythe lid or" cover when in position affords n0 obstruction or hintormhefinserti'on oi the articles within theease;
The invention: consists in the detai'l 's of construction and: in the combination and arran ente fthekseveralparts ot'my improne filingz' casawhcrebyi certain imperfort-h...
taut advantages ard-attainedand the device rendered. simpler, less expensive and-other wise more convenient and adhantageous for use; as: will be hereinafter more fully set The novel featuresoh my invention will hereinafter: be; definitely claimed.
In! order that invention may be the understo0d:,-1 will now proceed to de scribe the same with referenceto th'eac companying drawings, whereinz Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a filing caseconstructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention with the lid or cover in open position;
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary, longitudinal transverse sectional view taken through the case, as illustrated in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary, longitudinal, transverse, sectional view taken through a transverse, sectional the rear race or wall 2, andwhi'ch arr mentprovrdes a means wherehythe Fig. 6 is a; fragmentary, longitudinal,
transverse, sectional view taken in accord ancewith a still further embodiment; of'niy invention, thelid orcove'r being also shown inclosed position. I I
As is parti'cularl illustrated in. the accompanyiiig drawings, C denotes a contai nr' or may constructed in. aeeeraame with aneiribodiment of my invention, and
is preferably rectangular in form with one-end openand the front facjl of the case orhody C terminate'sa predetermined distance inwardly" of the free of angeinsertion of papers, en-v'lops or the like within the case'- or" body C is" materially facilitated.
The; end portion of one of the side walls 3 01 the casing or body (1 intermediate the outer or free ends of t hfilftt 'es' or. walls I and 2- has its outer extremity rounded", as vindicated at 4 in a direction toward therearface or wall 2,
while the correspondingportion of the second side wal l' ha'sitsouter; edge disposed on substantially a sigmodial line" I as indicated at '5. This structure also reults in amore conveitientinsertion of the articles within the casing or body C. It will be understood, however, that; if preferred,
these-portions of the side walls 3 may be of similar construction, but it is not thought that a particular illu'stration is necessary,. as
the arrangement illustrated in Fig". 1 is preferr'edi g denotes a lid or cover member comprising'; aback plate 6' of a length suhstantially equal td the width of the" casing or" body C,
and the lower or inner marginal portion of the plate 6 is hingedly connected as at 7 with the outer surface of the rear wall or face 2, and preferably through the medium of a flexible strip. The ends of the plate 6 are provided with the inwardly directed walls or flanges 8, which are adapted to overlie the free end portions of the side walls 3. The
outer or upper longitudinal marginal portion of the plate 6 is defined by the inwardly directed flange 9 with which the'outer ends of the flanges 8 are rigidly connected. The flange 9 is of a width substantially equal to the major thickness of the casing or body C,
and the outer longitudinal marginal portion of said flange 9 has hingedly engaged therewith a. flap 10 which is adapted to overlie the front face or wall 1 so that when the lid or cover is in closed position the contents of the body or casing C are effectively protected and particularly against dust. The
.fiap 10 is also provided at its outer or free longitudinal, marginal portion with a tongue 11 which is adapted to be inserted through a slot 12 produced in the outer face or wall 1 of the body or casing C so that the lid or cover L will be maintained in closed position.
In the form of my invention illustrated in Fig. 3, the structural features are substantially the same as has been just recited relartive to the embodiment of my invention disclosed in Figs. 1 and 2, eXcept that the plate 6 of the lid or cover member 1 is hingedly connected through the medium of a flexible strip 7 or the like to the outer surface of the front face or wall 1 of the casing or body C. The flap 10 is provided with a tongue l1 insertible through an opening 12 produced in the rear face or wall 2/.
In the form of my invention particularly illustrated in Figs. fl: and 5, thecasing or body C is substantially the same form of construction as has hereinbefore been recited relative to the casing or body C and the lid L is also substantially the same construction and configuration as the lid or cover L with the exception that the flap or front face 10 thereof has its end marginal portions rigidly secured to the outer longiof the side tudinal marginal portions flanges 8. a
The flap or plate 10 is also provided with a tongue 11 whichis adapted to be inserted O The lid or cover L is substantially the I same as the lid or cover L except that the plate 10 extends beyond the outer or free ends of the faces 1 and 2 when the lid or cover L is in closed position, and which construction is required in order to permit the lid or cover L to have the deslred free and unobstructed swinging movement to adjust the same into either open or closed position. 7 v
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a filing case constructed inaccordance with my invention is particularly-well adapted for use by reason of theconvenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will alsobe obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof, and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to we the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed. I claim: 1. A device of the character described comprising a casing having one end open,
and a cover for the open end of the casing hingedly connected to a wall of, the casing below the open end thereof, a face. wall of the casing having its outer end terminating inwardly of the outer end of the'second face wall, the side walls of the casing extending to the outer end of the second fac'ewwall,
the outer end of one of said side walls being i sigmoidal in form.
2. A device of the character described comprisinga case having one end open, and
a lid coacting with'the open endof said case,
said lid comprising a rear plate hingedly;
connected with a face wall of the casing inwardly of the open end of said casing, end flanges carried by said plate, a second plate secured to the first named plate and the end flanges, a third plate secured to the second named plate and the end flanges and adapted to overlie the second face wall of the easmg when the lid is in closed position, said third plate of the lid being provided with a? tongue, the second face wall of the casin I being provided with a slot through whic I the tongue is insertible- In testimony whereof'I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
