' HOLDER FOR TICKETS, CHECKS, &c.
'No. s79,o15.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 11, 1908.
Application filed December 13. 1907. Serial No. 406.394-
To alfwhmn it may concern:
Be it known that I, zen of the United States, residing at Swarthmore, in the county oflJelaware and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful 1 mprovemcnts inl'lolders for Tickets, Checks, &c., of which the following is a specification. This invention relates to check or ticket holders; and the object thereof to provide a holder of such class with means in a manner as hereinafter forth to prevent the removal of the stub portion of the check or ticket when severingthe latter and to further prevent the removal of the stub from the holder after the check or ticket has been severed, consequently overcoming any fraudulent intent to impair the record set up by the stubs secured within the holder.
Further objects of the invention are to provide a holder for checks or tickets which shall be simple in construction, strong, durable, efficient in its use, conveniently filled with checks or tickets, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in. view, the il'ivenlion consist of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more spk-scifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown the preferred embodiment of the invention, but it to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
in the accompanying drawings, wherein like characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a ticketor check holder in accordance with this invention, showing the same containing a series of tickets, and also a series of stuhs, the tickets having been severed therefrom; Fig. 2 is a sectional plan; Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section; Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the supporting plate, and, Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the ticket or cl leek.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the' holder comprises a body portion formed of a rear wall 1, side walls-2 and 3, and top wall 4, the latter being formed integral with the side walls 2, 3. These latter at their front ends are bent in an angular manner, at 5, 6 for a purpose to he hereinafter referred to. The portions 5, 6 of the side walls 2, 3 extend inwardly at an inclination towards each other PHILIP C. Snow, citi-' and constitute a retaining me one for the s tubs of the checks or tickets. The ticket, as shown in Fig. 5, comprises body. portion. 7 and a stub 8. At the junction of the stub 32 with the body portion 7, V-shaped notches 9 are provided in which extend the angular ends 5, 6 of the side walls. Such an arrangement retains the tickets in the holder and the stubs, when the body portion 7 is severed. The body portion 7 is separated from the stub 8 through a weakened line 10 which facilitates the severing of the said body portion? from the stub. i
The body portion. of the holder is -formed with an open front, as clearly shown in Fig: 1 and an open bottom which is closed through the med inrn of a closure plate 11, having'its rear end, as at 12, bent around a pivotbar 13 which is secured in the side walls 2, 3 of the body portion at the lower rear corners, thereof. The closure plate 12 has the poi tion 14 thereof positioned between the walls 2, 3 at the bottom and the said plate fl. is formed with a pair of forwardly-extending flanges 15 and 10 adapted to overlap the side walls 2, 3 at the bottom when. the plate 11 is secured in closing positioi'i. The flange lfi is of greater thickness than the flange 15 and 'is recessed, 21s at 17, to receive the end. of the bolt 18 of a lock ll). The latter is carried on the inner face of the plate 11 and when the said plate is moved to closing position the lock extends between. the lower portions of the side walls 2, The side wall 3 near its bottom is f rmed with an. elongated slot 20 through which extends the bolt 18 when the lock is turned to secure the plate 11 in closing position. The latter is furthermore provided with a key-holeshaped opening 1. through which adapted to extend a key so that access can be had to the lock 19 to 1nanipiilatc it.
Mounted in the lower part of the body portion of the holder is a supporting plate 22 which is of a length as to project outwardly from the angularly-disposed portions 5, 6 of the side walls 2, 3. The plate 22 conforms in contour to the checks or tickets and-has each longitudinal thereof provided with a V-shaped notch adapted to be arranged sof -the supporting plate 22 rests upon the ends of a clamping s ring 24, the latter at its 25 to the centerbein secure by the holdfast device ock 19. lhe function of the spring .24, by its engagement with the inner port on of ,the supporting plate. 22, is to snugly retain the stubs 8 in close contact with each other-that is to say to prevent any looseness of' thev pack of stubs when mounted in the bod portion of the holder. Pro'ecting lateral y from the side. wall 2 i heart e top is a pair of lugs 26 to which is pivoted a spring-pressed clip 27, the function r Ofwhic'h is to retain a severed. ticket when occasion so requires, or to ermit of the holder being attached to a sultable support. (By Way ofexample in this connection it will be stated that the spring-pressed clip 27 allows of the holder being secured to a belt or in the pocket of the garment of aperson, or
f to any other suitable support.) v The top wall4 of, the body ortion is of the same contour as the side wa Is 2, 3that is .to say the forward portion of said top wall 4 or tickets and that after a ody portion of a ticket has been severed from the stub the an 'gularly-disposed portions of the side walls will prevent the stub from being removed,
or the removal of-th stub for fraudulent holdthe checks urposes, cease uent not im airin the record set u by the sxtubs 8 i iich a e secured to the older.
What I claini'is- 1. A holderof the class described embodying a body portion having. an 0 en front, a closed top, a detachable hinged ottom, the forward portions of the side walls inturned to constitute a retaining means for tickets or checks and their stubs, and a plate mounted in and projecting'from the open front of said holder, said plate provided with V-shaped notchesto receive the inturned portions of the side walls of the holder. j
2. A holder of the class described embodying a body portion having an 0 en front, a closed top, a detachable hinged ottom, the forward portions of the side walls inturned to constitute a retaining means for tickets or checks, a plate mounted in and projecting from the open front of said holder, said plate providedwith V-shaped notches to receive the inturned portions of the side walls of the hold'mmeans carried by the bottom of the holder for detachably connecting said bottom to the side walls, and a spring interposed between said means and the rear portion of said plate.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my, hand in presence of two subscribing wit- IIGSSBS.
