To all whom it may concern;

Be it known that I, NATHAN M. STONE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Telephones andlthe like, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in attachments for telephones and the like, and has for its object' the provision of an improved construction of this character especially adapted for use in conjunction with telephones and. provided with convenient means for retaining various memoranda.

The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which, 4

The attachment is especially designed for use in conjunction with desk telephones,

although it is capable of other uses. In the form shown in the drawing, the attachment is secured to the stem 1 of an ordinary desk telephone by means of a clamp 2' provided with clamplng screws 3, said clamp being secured to the under side of a supporting plate 4. The supporting plate 4 is arranged to support a plurality of index cards 5 and 1s hinged at one end 6 to another supporting plate 7 arranged above the same and adapted to support a memorandum pad 8. The index cards '5 are mounted in position by means of two rings 9, each of said rings passing through a circular opening 9 and an elongated slot' 10 in plate 4, as best indicated centrally in Fig. 2. Slots 10 are also'provided in plate 7 in position to register with and receive rings 9 to accommodate said rings and permit folding of the parts into compact form, as indicated in Fig. 1. said pivot rod serving as trunmons' for a clamping member 13. The clamping member 13 is provided with a central recess in its upper face and with upstanding ears .14 cooperat- 1ng therewith to form a pencil or pen rest, as will be readily understood. The clamp ing member 13 is also provided with rearwardly extending cars 15 bent about rod 12 to effect a hinge connection therewith. Clamplng member 13 is also provided with an upstanding flange 16 at its rear extremity by means of which the same may be readily manipulated, and a spring 17 is provided on rod-12 arranged to hold the clamping member normally in closed clamping the memorandum pad 8, as indicated.

The device isdesigned to permit of the entering of telephone exchange numbers on the cards 16 and properly indexing the same and also to permit the ready making of memoranda from messages received over the telephone or otherwise. The construction disclosed will be found to be a simple and eflicient one for the purpose. While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of'construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. 1, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desireto avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.

Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

'1. A device of 'the class described, comprising a plate having sets of perforations extending therethrough, each set of perforations consisting of an opening and an elongated slot alining therewith;, rings mounted in said sets of perforations; and cards loosely mounted on said rings, substantially as described.

2.
