REVERSIBLE WRITING PAD.
Appunti@ mea August 13, um. serai 1:0. 731,693.
To aZZ fwwm, t may concern.'
Bc it known that I, .lum A. H. BARKEIJ, a citizen of Holland, residing at Hollywood, in the' county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful ln'xprovenibnts in Reversible W riting Pads, of which the following 1s a specification.
My invention relates lo improvements in i0 writing pads and pencil tablets generally used by students, stenographers, etc.
The writing pads and pencil tablets in general use have a back-board permanently attached tofonc side of the pad or tablet,
so that is is convenient to write on only one side of the sheetsr thereof, and the other side is leftvblanlr ory only partially used, thus involving unnecessary Waste.
The main object of my invention is to 2@ provide a pad of the kind described with a removable back-board, which may be detached from the pad When one side of the sheets have been written on and may be re attached thereto in such a position that the other side of the sheets may he as conveniently used as the first side, 4thus not only saving paper but also saving space, in case Fig. 1 is va view of thefront "side ofI the pad. A
Fig. 2 is an edge View of the pad shown in Fig. 1.
.4.5 A Fig. 3 is a back View of thepad Fig. 4 is'an enlarged sectional view of' the pad taken on line 4 4 of F ig. 1. v
The manner of binding the sheets, in forming the pad, is a part ofpmy invention. its shown in Fig. 2 the sheets 10 which form the pad are bound at one end by binding strips 11 of equal Width and thickness on both sides of the ad. The sheets may be clamped between t ese strips by sewing through them, but are Apreferably held to- M gether by clamping staples 12 extending through the pad and binding strips and having their sides 13 bent down in the usual way. Holes 14- are made through the binding strips and pad.
A back-board 15 having holes 16 in one end, so spaced as to coincide With holes 11i in the pad, is provided and is attached to the pad by means of metal clips 17 having split Shanks 18, which extend through holes 14s and 16 and the ends of which are bent outward as at V19 to form a detachable fastener. Clips 17 are made of sufficiently thin and flexible metal so thaiJ ends 19 may be straightened out, when the pad is .to be reversed, the back-board may be detached from the original side of the pady and reattached to the other side thereof in the same Way. Vifith the pad thus reversed the second side of itssheets may be used as readily as the first side.
Having thus illustrated and deseribed my invention, claim:
1. A reversible Writing pad, com rising a permanent assemblage of sheets o' mate- W rial adapted for Writing thereon to form a pad, permanent binding strips on both sides of said pad, clamping one end thereof, and a back-'board having one of its ends detachably fixed to said binding strips and if@ pad, so that said haelt-board may be removed from either side of said pad and may be reettached to the other side thereof.
2. A, reversible Writing pad, comprisingA a plurality of sheets assembled toA form a im pad, binding stripsv fixed to one end of said pad on both sides thereof, .permanent clamping staples extending through said pad and binding strips, a hack-board having 'one end detachably fixed to said pad im and detachable means for xing said back vboard to said pad, so that said back-board may be removed from one side and fixed to the other side of vsaid pad.
3. A reversible Writing pad comprising if*
