APPLICATION FILED APR. 3. 19!?- 1,303,305. l Patented May 13, 1919.
IIWEIVTOR A TTUR/VEV TED STATES PATENT oruion.
WIRT L. HAYMOND, 0F WEBSTER GROVES, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO HERMAN A. MORSMAN, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 13, 1919.
Application filed April 3, 1917. Serial No. 159,419.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, "WIR'T L. HAYMOND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Webster Groves, in the county of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Desk-Telephones, of which the following is a specification, reference 1 being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to attachments for desk telephones, and has for its object to provide a structure to be detachably secured to the base of a desk telephone, adapted to carry writing materials and reference sheets.
In the drawings- Figure 1 is a top plan view of a structure embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same in place, the telephone base being indicated by dotted lines.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a fragment of the same.
Fig. 1 is a transverse vertical sectional view of the pad-holding frame, taken on the line 4lof Fig. 3.
As shown in the drawings my attachment is adapted to be detachably secured to the telephone-base 5, which I accomplish by the use of the circular base-plate 6 having spring-clips 7 to hold the device in place upon the base 5.
The plate 6 is extended and bent vertically (as shown by 8) and then laterally to form the tilted bracket 9. The sheet material so employed is folded angularly at the rear of the bracket 9 to form the clamp 10, in which the rear edge of a paper-block 11 (which may be a memorandum-book, diary or telephone directory) is caught and held at an angle convenient for writing when the telephone is in use.
Mounted above the paper block 11 is the block 12, supported upon the leaf 13. Said leaf 13 is hingedly mounted as follows: Ears 141 l (see Fig. 1) arestruck up from the base 9 to form bearings for the depending ends 1515 of the yoke 16 in which the leaf 13 is fixed. The overlapping parts 14.-15 are indented as indicated by 1717 to form a pivotal connection.
The yoke 16 is provided with a set-screw 18 whereby the block or pad 12 is detachaibly secured in place.
All the rear of the plate 9 I provide the rack 19, contoured to form a spring clamp 20 at its center; said clamp 20 and rack 19 being adapted to hold pens, pencils or a memorandum card (such as indicated by dotted lines 21 in Fig. 2) conveniently adjacent to the writing paper.
The leaf 13 is provided with a projecting hook 22 whereby it is thrown upward and out of the way when the book or pad 11 is referred to.
The object of providing the upper and lower pads or books 11 and 12 is that the upper (12) may be used as a pad, the lower (12) being for quick reference, as a catalogue, price-list, directory or other tabulation of reference matter, more or less privatein character and normallyconcealed by the leaf 13.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to have secured to me by the grant of Letters Patent, is-
1. The attachment for desk telephones comprising a bracket; a pad removably secured thereon; a leaf hingedly secured to said bracket and normally resting upon said pad; and means for detachably securing a second pad in place upon said leaf; a baseplate arranged to be detachably secured to a Eeleghone base and to which said bracket is 2. The attachment for desk telephones comprising a base-plate; spring clips arranged to detachably secure said base-plate to a telephone-base; a tilted bracket formed integral with said base-plate; a clamp mounted on said bracket; a leaf hingedly mounted above said clamp; and fastening means arranged to hold material in place upon said leaf.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.
WIRT L. HAYMOND.
