Huh 7 1 I J STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK EARHART HARE, or MANCHESTER, IOWA.
TELEPHONE QR DESK MEMORANDUM.
isses.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 20, 1922.
Application filed December 23, 1921. Serial No. 524,400;
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I FRANK E. HARE, acitizen of the United tates, and a resident of Manchester, Delaware County, Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Telephone or Desk Memorandum, of whichthe following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of this invention is to provide a practical and convenient telephone or desk memorandum whereby the writing paper can easily be drawn from a rotating paper roll, lengthwise across a smooth solid frame bottom, and held more or less rigid at the place reserved for a writing'space,
and to provide apractical method of detaching the paper, as desired, leaving the remaining end of the paper in an accessible position for the drawing out process of-the next memorandum to the cutting detachment.
In order to accomplish the desired result use is made of a paper memorandum roll of any desired size in connection with a sheet metal frame, composed of one piece of sheet metal or. other, material, as represented in the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of these specifications. Similar characters of reference indicate corresponding edge, or point of parts as shown in the drawing. The telephone or desk memorandum may be fastened securely to a telephone or desk by use of thumb tacks through the holes in the bottom plate.
Fig. l is a side elevation of my device.
Fig. 2 is a plan view.
Fig. 3 is a front elevation, and
Fig. dis a view showing the cutting end of the writing frame.
A memorandum roll 1 is designed to rotate between two vertical arms 2 on a spindle 3, said spindle passing through the openings 4 of the two side vertical arms 2, as shown.
In operation, the paper from the memorandum roll follows the course of the dotted lines downward beneath the two small cross arms 5, which serve as a guide and clamp,
and thence passes lengthwise over the writing space of the smooth solid frame bottoms 6, and thence beneath the combination clamp and guide 7 to the crosswise cutting edge 8.
When the free end of the paper is drawn back against the cutting edge 8 and detached, a small margin of the remaining end of the paper will fall back from the cutting edge 8 and rest on the two tongue projections 9 of the frame bottom 6, thus causing the said end margin of paper to become accessiblefor a finger hold in drawing out the next memorandum to the cutting edge 8, and so on until the paper from the memorandum roll is exhausted.
- A support for a pen or pencil 10 is provided near the base of the vertical arms 2, the pencil resting in a crosswise position from arm to arm.
. The frame bottom in the rear ward and outward, affording a clamp tothe outside base of the two vertical arms 2.
Two small holes 12 are provided in the frame bottom for the reception of the thumb tacks.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A telephone memorandum holder having a smooth writing plate with a vertical side arm extending upward on each side at the rear thereof, each arm having a bearing for a roll spindle, a sp-indle for a memorandum strip roll, and a horizontal member projecting inward from each arm over the writing plate for the guidingof the memorandum strip thereover as it unrolls, and a friction clamp at the forward end of the writing plate arranged to guide the memorandum strip and affords a tearin edge.
In testimony whereof I have name to this specification in the 11 flares upsigned my presence of .two subscribing witnesses.
