Description

J M C COMAS TELEPHONE ATTACHMENT Oct. 39, 1923.
Filed Deg. 12. 1922 Patented Oct. 30, 1923.
JESSE MCCOMAS, 0]? LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
TELEPHONE ATTACHMENT.
Application filed December 12, 1922. Serial No. 606,546.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, Jesse MOCOMAS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles. in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Telephone Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to telephone attachments and has for its object to provide a combined sanitary cover, memoranda pad and advertising device.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a device of such construction and character that it may be readily applied to the transmitter of a telephone set in such manner that the mouth piece of the telephone is not only protected from direct contact with the breath of users of the telephone but furthermore the mouth piece is so comparatively covered that it is protected against damage in the event that the telephone is knocked over or falls. The device also forms a protector in that it prevents the telephone from being lifted by the mouth piece as a purchase port-ion.
A further object of the invention is to provide a sanitary cover of such character and arrangement that while it prevents the blowing of the breath directly onto the mouth piece, it does not in any wise interfere with the efficiency of telephonic conversation and on the contrary is found to enhance the efficiency.
The device has also for its object to provide for a very compact, ornate and effective advertising and memoranda means.
Other objects and advantages will be made manifest in the following specification of an embodiment of the invention il lustrated' in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective of the device.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device as applied to the transmitter of a telephone.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of the dev1ce. I
Fig. 4 is a detail, sectional view showing the trunnion lug receiving a roll of paper.
An object of the invention is to provide a combined sanitary cover, memoranda pad and advertising device of substantial and inexpensive construction and to provide a .clined bracket 4, the
device consisting of substantially one integral element upon which may be readily mounted and removed a memoranda receiving'and mouth piece covering web.
he device is shown as comprising a unitary structure having a socket plate or back panel 2 which is perforated at 3 to pass over the usual threaded reduced end of the mouth piece P of a telephone set so that when the back panel 2 is disposed "in front of the transmitter and the mouth piece screwed thereon the mouth piece will serve to clamp the back panel in place between the transmitter shell and the mouth piece. The upper portion of the back panel 2 is pro vided with a forwardly and upwardly inparallel edges of which are provided with bearing lugs or tongues 5, the upper ends of which are designed to provide pivots upon which may be rotative 1y supported a roll of material such, for instance, as a web of paper W which has, preferably, a width slightly greater than the diameter of the mouth piece P so that the web W, when pulled of the mouth piece,
down across the front will substantially cover the same and, therefore, prevent the breath from being blown onto the mouth piece when the telephone is in use.
The top bracket 4 has a transverse slot 6 through which the leading end of the paper web can be-threaded'to pass down in front of the mouth piece and the front upper end of the bracket 4 is provided with an upstanding plate or leaf 7 disposed in front of the roll W which is mounted on the pivot portions 5' in the bearing lugs 5. The pivot portions may and, preferably. do consist of inwardly pressed protuberances to enter the core C of the roll of web W.
-The upwardly extending-plate or leaf 7 forms a cover and protector for the front of the roll of web and upon the face of this leaf there may be placed any desired legend. data or, preferably, advertising matter indicated at A, so that the device may serve effectively when applied to the telephone as an advertising medium.
From thelower portion of the back panel or mounting plate 2 there extends forwardly and downwardly a bottom plate 10 and from the outer portion of this there is turned downwardly a'platen or table forming secaperture 13 and the lower marginal portion of the table 11 is slightly struck up in a transverse bar 14 so that the web W can be readily pulled down from the roll by a pressure of the thumb or a finger on the face of the web between the upper and lower transverse guide bars 12 and 14.
It will be seen that the device is in its preferred form made of one integral piece of inexpensive and substantial sheet metal wholly devoid of separable or moving parts and, therefore, of practicable and substantial form.
I provide by this invention not only a sanitary and removable antiseptic Web W but this web further is serviceable as a memoranda keeping means since it provides for the making of notes on the section thereof successively exposed on the writing table 11 between the guide and holding bars 1214.
After a memorandum has been entered on the portion of the web resting over the table 11, the web can be pulled down as by pressure on the web downwardly on the table 11 and after a sufiicient portion has been projected beyond the guide bar 14, the end of the web is then grasped and by a quick movement the exposed section is severed along the lower edge of the guide bar 14.
For convenience, a writing instrument as a lead pencil L can be connected as by a chain or other flexible means 15 to the device so that it may be constantly in position for instant use when necessary in making memoranda.
It is to be understood that if desired the web may be provided with a continuous form of advertising or other matter, or the advertising may be printed in the form of spaced cards, or notices, or paragraphs, or advertising or other pictures may be applied thus giving the web the further func tion of being an advertising or other useful medium as well as for covering the mouth piece and forming a memoranda; sheet.
Further embodiments, modifications and variations may be resorted to Within the spirit of the invention as here claimed.
What is claimed is: V
l. Acne-piece device attachable to a telephone transmitter and consisting of a back plate perforated to receive the usual threaded shank of the mouth piece of a transmitter and adapted to be secured to the transmitter shell by said mouth piece, a web roll supporting bracket at the top of the plate, and a table part for supporting the web to enable the writing of memoranda on the extended portion of the web, said table part having upper and lower guide loops for the web.
2. A one-piece device attachable to a telephone transmitter and consisting of a back plate perforated to receive the usual threaded shank of the mouth piece of a transmitter and adapted to be secured to the transmitter shell by said mouth piece, a top bracket having web roll supporting lugs, said bracket having an eye for the web, a web guiding and retaining means to which the web is extended from the roll supporting means and across the mouth piece so that the web covers the mouth piece, and a roll covering element having a front face adapted to receive an advertising medium.
3. A one-piece device applicable to a telephone transmitter and consisting of a plate with a perforated attaching part having an upwardly and forwardly extending web roll supporting portion and which is perforated to form a guide for the web drawn from the roll, a downwardly and forwardly extending portion having a transverse guide for the withdrawn web, said part having an integral leaf forming a table portion having a lower guide and retaining device for the web, whereby the web as it is unwound from the roll will'extend in a covering position across the mouth piece and will be supported for memoranda purposes on the said table.
4. A combined sanitary and memoranda sheet holder and guide, for attachment to a telephone transmitter, comprising a sheet metal structure having a back plate perforated to receive the mouthpiece shank, a top bracket having bearing lugs for a sheet roll and having a transverse slot in its front portion to receive the unwound sheet, and a bottom plate having at its front a downturned table, said table having upwardly punched crow-loops forming retaining guides for the sheet as it is drawn from covering position over the mouthpiece.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
JESSE M COMAS.
