UNTED STATES PATENT @FETCH FRANK EUSTACE AND JEROME J'. SMIDDY, OF HONOLULU, TERRITORY OF HAWAII.
CUFF ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 20, 1910.
Application filed August 3, 1910. Serial No. 575,267.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, FRANK HUsTACn and JEROME J. SMIDDY, citizens of the United States, and residents of Honolulu, island of Oahu, Territory of Hawaii, have made certain new and useful improvements in Cuit Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
)ur invention is an improvement in cud attachments, and consists in certain novel constructions, and combinations of parts, hereinafter described and claimed.
The object of the invention is to provide an attachment for use with an ordinary cuif, consisting of a support arranged between the cu'if and the sleeve, and concealed from view when in inward position, and carrying a sheet of material capable of receiving written memoranda or the like and from which the writing may be erased without injury to the sheet.
Referring to the drawings forming a part hereof, Figure l is a side view of the improvement in position, Fig. 2 is a plan View of the case, a part thereof being broken away, Fig. 3 is a partial longitudinal section, and Fig. et is a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 27.
The present embodiment of the invention consists of a thin ease A, open at one end, and curved transversely, as shown in Fig. to iit the outer surface of the cuff B. At each side edge and at the open end, the case is provided with a resilient strip C, secured to the case at one end and projecting beyond the case at its free end, the said end being bent bachwardly upon the plate to form a hook D. The hooks D are adapted to engage the edge of the coat sleeve E, to hold the case in place between the inner face of the sleeve, and the outer face of the cuff. At approximately the center of the open end, the case is provided with a semi-circular notch or cut away portion F for a purpose to be present-ly described. A sheet G of material having a glazed surface to receive writing, and capable of receiving erasures without damage is slipped in the case, the said sheet being of approximately the same size as the case, but fitting loosely enough to permit its easy withdrawal and return.
The notch F permits thecard to be grasped between the finger and thumb of the hand not provided with the case, to partially withdraw the card.
In use the case is so arranged with respect to the hand H, that when partially withdrawn it rests on the back of the hand. In this position the card is supported in position to receive the writing.
It actual use the case will be supported on the sleeve of the left arm, but with left handed persons the reverse would obtain.
le claim:
1. A device of the character specified, comprising a thin case of light material open at one end and curved transversely to tit a cuff and adapted to be inserted between the cud and the sleeve, with the open end outward, a hook on each side edge near the open end, each hook comprising a strip of resilient material secured at one end to the case, bent outwardly and backwardly upon itself to engage the outer surface of a. sleeve, and a sheet of material fitting loosely in the case and having a surface capable of receiving an impression and permitting its era.- sure without damage to the sheet, the case having a notch in its open end intermediate the side edges to permit the sheet to be grasped.
2. A device of the character specified, comprising a thin case open at one end and curved transversely to fit over a cufl', a hook at each side edge of the case for engaging the edge of a sleeve, and a sheet of material in the case having a surface capable of receiving writing and permitting its erasure, the case having a notch in its side walls at the open end for permitting the sheet to be grasped.
3. A device of the character specied, comprising a thin case open at one end and curved transversely to fit over a cuff, a hook at each side edge of the case for engaging the edge of a sleeve, and a sheet of material having a glazed surface fitting loosely in the case.
a. A device of the character specified, comprising a thin case open at one end and curved transversely to t over a cuff, means on the case for engaging the edge of a sleeve,
and a sheet of material having a glazed sulfaee fitting loosely in the ease, the case having its side walls notched at the open end to permit the sheet to be grasped. 5 A device of the character specified, Comi prisng a 'thin ease open at one end and litnessesr and a sheet of material having a glazed surface fitting loosely 1n the ease.
FRANK HUSTACE. JEROME J. SMIDDY.
Curved transversely to fit over a cuff, means A. H. CLARK,
