Be it lmown that I, HOWARD In FISCHER, a citizen of the United States of America,

residing at St. Paul, in the county of Itam-y sey'and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Perpetual Memorandum Pads, of which the following isa specification. A

My invention relates to a memorandum pad which is of a nature to form a means upon whichl a memorandum can be written and erased to leavethe memorandum surface in readiness to receiveanother wr'itten memorandum, so that the memorandum pad is of a perpetual nature. A feature of the invention is in providing a smooth transparent or translucent surface such as Celluloid or other. suitable vmaterial, which can be written upon, but

which does not receive the crayon from a pencil or the ink from apen, but is so smooth -as to allow the writing instrument to slide freely over its surface. By means of'this writing surface any pointed instrument can be used to write upon my memorandum pad.v It is desirable .thatthe writing surface be Vsufliciently flexible to transmit the .pressure of the writing instrument to the members below the writing surface sheet so that the impression will be trans--v ferred in a manner to form a memorandum upon the surface whichfis visible through the writng'surface of the pad.

l provide a member 16 in the form of a band, the portion 17 of which extends over the outer surface of the member 10 and the portion 18 of which extends beneath the tissue 11 and the member 12. The portion 18 of the erasing member 16 bears against the waxed-like surfacey 13 which is of a somewhat soft nature so as to receive the f writing pressure to a certain degree. The

erasingr member is operated to slide back and forth over the surface 10 and over the surface 13 and forming a stripper to separate the tissue 11 from the surface 13 of the member, 12. In this manner the written memorandum can be readily erased from the memorandum pad, as is clearly illustrated in Figure 3 where the erasing member is partially slid along the pad from the top of the same. After the erasing member is 'drawn or slid back and forth it will clear the surface of the tissue from the member 12 and prepare the pad for a new memorandum.

In operation the erasing member forms a double function by separating the tissue 11 from the surface 13 and the portion 18 of this member forms a means for rubbing" over the surface 13 to tend to smoothen the same, thereby eliminating the marks caused by the writing pressure on the surface 13 and keeping this surface in readiness to receive a clear and sharp cut memorandum which is visible through the member 10Q It is an important feature of this invention to provide means for protecting the tissue 11 which is readilyaccomplished by the tranparent member 10. ln addition it is equally important to keep the tissue straight and fiat against the surface of the meats@ carbon member 12 without any wrinkles and so that the writing will be readily reproduced by the same. Then, further, the wiping of the waxed-like surface 13 by the member 16 is of equal importance to keep the memorandum pad in readiness for use and to prolong the life of the same.

rlhe face portion of the part 17 of the erasing member 16 can be used for printed matter or other displays for various purposes.

ln Figure 4 l have illustrated a perspec-V tive View of an alternative construction in which the member 16 extends about the card board or supporting back 141 with the portion 18 of the member 16 engaging against \the-back 14, while the portion 17 of this member extends between the tissue 11 and the carbon waxed-like member 12. i ln this construction the portion 17 forms the wiping means for the waxed-like member 12 and separating for erasing the Writing or memorandum from the pad A. rllhe function of the member 16 in this construction is identical to that in Figures 1 and 2, and it can be slid back and forth to erase any memorandums from the pad A.

1n Figure 1 l have illustrated the memorandum namely: Call John Doe Thursday on the pad A, while in Figures 3 and 41- l vparent member 10 if it is desired, inwhich case the pad will function exactly the same to receive a memorandum of writing, excepting that the tissue cannot be written upon with a lead pencil, crayon or other writing instrument, which would make a mark on the tissue. lf the transparent member 10 is left off then it is necessary to write or engage the tissue with a smooth instrument Which will not leave a writing mark on the surface of the same. The erasing member 16 will operate in the same manner Without the transparent member 1() to clear the sheet for a new memorandum.

, The use of a memorandum pad of this nature is very extensive and unless it is made up of a substantial nature in a manner as described the use is very limited, because when the tissue/becomes injured it is not practical for use, so it is very important to have the same held in close proximity to the surface 13 and protected in a manner as ilbon sheet and the surface 13 must be kept prepared with a smooth even'surface so that the tissue will readily adhere when writing is applied.

My invention accomplishes these features and provides a memorandum pad which can be used without danger of the memorandum being erased before it is desired. e

n accordance with the patent statutes I have described the principles of my invention, together lwith the drawing adapted to illustrate the best embodiment thereof, but

l desire to have itunderstood that l ldo not wish to confine my invention to the particular illustration shown in the drawingsand v wish to protect the invention within the sc ope of the following claims: l

A-memorandum'. pad including, a transparentsheet, a tissue sheet, a waxed-like carbon sheet, means for securing said sheets togetherto hold the same in close proximity and against separation at their ends and means for separating the tissue sheet fromv the carbon sheet to erase the memorandum written upon said pad.

2. A memorandum pad including, a smoothsurface for writing upon without vmarking with a pencil, means for reproducing the writing and means for erasing the writing fr om the pad by means of a 'stripperextending between the members adapted to reproduce the writing `'which separates the same. v

3. A perpetual memorandum pad including, a transparentmember, a tissue member, a waxed-like carbon memberA secured t0- ether at their. ends and means 'for' separatmg the tissue member rfrom the waxed-.like

A memorandum pad,l including, atransparent member, a tissue member, 'a waxedlike member adjacent said tissue member 'of a color visiblethrough said `tissue member at the point where the tissue member adheres to said waxed-like member and means for separating the tissue member from said waxed-like membervto erase and disengage the tissue member from the waxed-like member so that the color of the waxed-like member is not visible through the tissue member.

A -memorandum pad comprising, a tlssue member, a waxed-llke colored member, means for securing said tlssue member and colored member together and means extending between said tissue member and waxed `like member to separate the adheringpart of'saidtissue'member from said waxed-like 'member to erase the memorandum appearing on said tissue member.

A memorandum pad having means for receiving a lmemorandum comprising, a tissue member of a light color and a waxedlike dark colored member, means vfor securing said members together and an erasing member adapted to extend between the tissue and waxed-like member to separate said tissue from said waxed-like member to erase a memorandum from said pad and at the same time to polish the surface of said waxed-like member adjacent said tissue member. v

A writing and drawing pad comprisin a base coated on one face with a plastic su stance, a tissue-sheet superposed onsaid coating, the base with its coating and the tissue-sheet differing in color, saidl sheet being adapted upon impressure to` adhere vto said plastic substance along. the lines ofv impressure, a strip interposed between: said base and sheet and movable longitudinally thereof -to -rai'se any pressed portion of the sheetl fromlthe base, and vmeans for guiding said strip in said longitudinalrnovement.,
