. This invention relates particularly to an eraser and pencil holder to be removably attached to a typewriter, although the invention is adaptable for holding other articles and for attachment to other supports than typewriters.

One object of the invention is to provide a holder of the character described embodying novel and improved features of construction which shall be small, compact and can be attached to a typewriter in close relation thereto so as not to project from the machine or cause an obstruction and which shall provide a convenient and easily accessible support and holder for a typewriter eraser and a pencil, whereby the possibility of loss or misplacement of the eraser and the pencil shall'be greatly reduced and the eraser and pencil shall be always readily accessible for use.

Another object is to provide such a holder embodying novel and improved features of construction to support and hold an eraser vertically edgewise and parallel to one side of the typewriter, so that the eraser can be easily and quickly grasped for use and replaced in the holder expeditiously and with a natural and easy movement of the operators hand, whereby the making of erasures shall cause only a minimum of hindrance in the typewriting operation.

Other objects are to provide a holder of this character which shall comprise a body having means'at one end for attaching the body to a typewriter, means at the other end for holding a pencil or the like, and means intermediate the ends of the body at one side thereof for holding an eraser or the like, whereby said holder shall be small and compact and can be attached to a frame bar of a typewriter and depend therefrom in close relation thereto; to provide such a holder wherein the means for attaching the body to a typewriter shall consist of a resilient flange at one end of the body and opposed to one side thereof, and said pencil-holding means shall comprise a second resilient flange at the other end of the body in opposed relation to the other side thereof, while said eraser-holding means shall comprise a pocket facing toward said attaching flange at the same side of said body as said pencil-holding flange, whereby said holder can be easily and quickly attached to a typewriter in a conveniently accessible and out-of-the-way position with said pocket and said pencil-holding flange facing upwardly to readily receive an eraser and a pencil, respectively; to provide an eraser and pencil holder attachment for typewriters which shall be simple and inexpensive, reliable and durable in construction and operation; and to obtain other advantages and results which will be brought out by the following description. 1

bodimentof the invention, the holder comprises a body 1 which is preferably formed of a single piece of flat or sheet material, preferably resilient, for example metal, hard rubber composition, or the like. One end portion of the body is provided with means for attaching the body to the frame of a typewriter, and in the present instance said means is shown as consistingof a flange 2 preferably integral with the body, which is returned in opposed relation to one side of the body so as to receive the bar A of a typewriter between the flange and the main portion of the body, as clearly shown in Figure 1.

The other end of the body is provided with means for: holding a pencil or the like B, said means being shown as comprising a second flange 3, preferably integral with the body, which is returned in opposed relation to the other side of the main portion of the body.

Intermediate the ends of the bodyand at over the bar so that sai the same side thereof as the ncil-holding flange 3, is provided means or holding a typewriter eraser or the like C. In'the present instance, this eraser-holding means is shown as comprising a pocket 4 the opening of which faces toward the end of the body from which projects the attaching flange 2. This pocket may be formed in any suitable manner, but as shown consists of a piece of suitable material havin its edges secured to the side of the body, as indicated at 5, for example by an adhesive. The pocket comprises a front wall 6 and side walls 7, and the rear wall of the ocket is formed by the body 1. If desired? the front wall 6 of the pocket may be a proximatelyparallel'to the main portion 0 the body 1 but preferably flares or is inclined away from the body toward the open end of the pocket, and extends between the body and the pencil-holding flange 3 from the juncture of said body with said flange and beyond the free end of said flange so that the holder may be made small and compact and said front wall will resist accidental displacement of a pencil from between said wall and said flange. The front wall of the pocket is spaced from the main portion of the body a distance to receive the eraser edgewise and parallel to said main portion, and the pocket is of such depth that the upper edge of the eraser C will normally project from the opening of the pocket so as to be easily accessible. The'inclined outer wall 6 of the pocket causes the eraser to incline outwardly from the body to provide a clearance for the fingers of the operator in gripping the eraser.

In use of the holder, it is attached to a bar of a typewriter by sli ping the flange 2 1 bar is clamped between the flange 2 and the body, and the holder depends from the said bar of the typewriter in close relation thereto. When the holder is so located, the pocket 4 facesupwardly and is disposed approximately parallel to the bar of the typewriter frame, as clearly shown in Figure 1, and the pocket ma receive the eraser vertically edgewise so t at the eraser can be conveniently inserted in and removed from the pocket with a natural motion, whereby the use of the eraser will impede the typewriting operation at the minimum. The pencil-receiving flange 3 also faces upwardly, and the pencil may be placed in the holder by simply forcing the pencil between the front wall 6 ofv the pocket and the typewriter eraser from catching on the upper edge of the pocket, and also to provide a clearance for gr1 ping the eraser when the latter has been re uced by use to a small diameter, the upper edge of the front wall 6 of 'the pocket may be cut away as indicated at 9.

It will be observed that the holder embodying my invention is small, compact and simple in construction. It can be easily and quickly applied to and removed from a typewriter frame, and when attached to a typewriter will be arranged in close relation thereto so as to provide a minimum of projection and prevent hindrance to the operator during operation of the typewriter. The pocket 4 provides a convenient and accessible holder for the eraser whereby loss or misplacement of the eraser may be prevented, while the penoil-holding flange 3 provides a means for preventing loss or misplacement of a pencil and Wlll maintain the pencil in a conveniently accessible position.

While I have shown and described the invention as embodied in certain details of construction, it should be understood that this is pr marily for the purpose of illustrating the princlples of the invention, and that many modifications and changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:

1. device of the character described, comprislng a body of resilient sheet material having means at one side and one end for attachmg the body to a bar of a typewriter frame, a pocket on the other side of said body having an open end facing the first-mentioned end of said body to receive a typewriter eraser with itsplane approximately parallel to said body, and an integral flange at the other end of said body and adjacent the other end of said pocket returned in opposed relation to and artially overlying said pocket to hold a pencil or the like.
