CLIFTON E. SINGLETON, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
FASTENING MEANS.
Application filed .Tune 28, 1918, Serial No. 242,419. Renewed March 10, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLIFTON E. SINGLE- TON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of Brooklyn, in the city of New York, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fastening lvleans, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to fastening means, and more particularly of the character of fastening means employed in connection with cycles for supporting a member, such as a pump or the like, on the frame of the cycle.
The object of the invention is to produce a simple fastening means which can be readily applied to a support such as the frame of a cycle, and by means of which a member can be conveniently and detachably carij-ielfl on said support without producing a rattling, noise.
To this end the invention consists of the features of construction, a preferred em bodiment of which is hereinafter set forth.
Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a portion of a cycle frame with the device of the invention attached.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged View in elevation of the fastening means with the member to be supported partly in section.
Fig. 3 is a sectional View on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. is a plan View of one of the helices used in connection with the fastening means.
1 indicates a support of any suitable character such as the frame of a cycle. 2 is a band of flexible material such as brass embracing said supper. and having at its free ends the eyelets 3, the latter formed in this instance by doubling back said free ends between the band and the support. a is'a helix resting with its base on the support and threaded through the eyelets of the band. It will be understood that by turning the helix in one direction the ends of the band are drawn together thereby causing the band to clasp the support firmly. The helix 4: is of resilient material and coneshaped as shown and is provided with an extension 5.
It will be understood that, when two or more of said fastening devices are placed in spaced relation as in Figs. 1 and 2, a mem- Specification of Letters Patent.

ber such as the pump 6 may be suspended by causing the extensions 5 to enter the openings 7 in the pump, and that the latter Will be held firmly in such position and will not rattle when the cycle is subjected to stresses.
I claim 1. Fastening means comprising: a sup port, a band of flexible material embracing said support and having eyelets at its free ends, and a helix resting with its base on said support and threaded through said eyelets for drawing the free ends of the band together.
2. Fastening means comprising: a support, a band of flexible material embracing said support and having eyelets at its free ends, and a resilient helix resting with its base on said support and threaded through said eyelets for drawing the free ends of the band together.
3. Fastening means comprising: a sup port, band of flexible material eml acing said support and having eyelets at its free ends, and a cone-shaped helix resting with its base on said support and threaded through said eyelets for drawing the free ends of the band together.
1. Fastening means comprising: a support, a band of flexible material embracing said support and having eyelets at its free ends, and a cone-shaped resilient helix resting with its base on said support and threaded through said eyelets for drawing the free ends of the band together.
5. Fastening means comprising: a support, a band of flexible material embracing said support and having eyelets at its free ends formed by doubling back said free ends between the band and the support, and a helix resting with its base on said support and threaded through said eyelets for drawing the free ends of the band together.
6. Fastening means comprising: a support, two bands of flexible material spaced apart each embracing said support and each having eyelets at its free ends, a helix associated with each of said bands resting with its base on said support and threaded through said eyelets for drawing the free ends of the band together, a member to be supported, and extensions on said helices engaging and supporting said member.
7. Fastening means comprising: a support, two bands of flexible material spaced apart, each embracing said support and each having eyelets at its free ends, a resilient helix associated With each of said bands resting With its base on said support and threaded through said eyelets for drawing the free ends of the band together, a member to be supported having openings in its ends, and extensions on said helices engaging Within said openings and supporting 10 CLIFTON E. SINGLETON.
