APPLICATION FILED JAN.I7.I9H1.

. UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EVERETT W. JONES, 0F LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
WINDOW-TENT.
Application filed January 17, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EVERETT W. J ONES, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have in vented new and useful Improvements in Window-Tents, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a tent like structure which can be secured in an opened window and will be held therein with a portion projecting over a bed or couch in the room alongside the window; and the object thereof is to surround the head of a person lying on the bed with a protective curtain that will permit the air from outside the room to enter the tent without producing any draft.
In the drawings forming a part of this application Figure 1 is a top plan of the tent frame with a portion of an outside wall in section and a portion of a bed and room shown dia grammatically.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the parts shown in Fig. 1 with a portion of a curtain on the frame.
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 33 of Fig. a
Fig. 4 is an enlarged perspective, partly cut away, of the frame detached.
Referring to the drawings 5 is the outer wall of a room which is provided with a window 6. When the lower sash 7 is raised the body members 8 and 9 of the frame are received in the sash runway below the sash. These body members have secured thereto, preferably by hinges 10, one of which is shown in Fig. 4, the outer erossbars 11 and 12 which are adjustably secured together by means of a bolt 13 which passes through a slot 14 in one member and also through the other member either in a slot or a hole and has a thumbnut on its lower end. The head of the bolt is too large to pass through the slot and when the body members are positioned in the runways the nut is tightened and the sash is brought down upon the body members, thereby holding them firmly in place. To the tops of the body members and extending at right angles thereto when positioned for use are the side members 16 and 17 which are also secured by means of hinges 18. To the inner ends of the side members Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 26, 1919.
Serial No. 212,357.
are detachably secured the inner erossbars 20 and 21 which are adjustably secured together by means of a bolt 23 which passes through slot 24 and also passes through a hole or slot in the other bar and has a thumbnut on the lower end. Brace rods 25 and 26 have inturned ends which enter holes in the body and side members .to hold the side members at right angles to the body members when the frame is positioned for use. After the frame is positioned a cloth covering or curtain 27 consisting of a top member, two side members and an inner end member all connected together is placed on the frame and secured thereto by means of hooks 28 in the bodymembers.
When all the parts are positioned the bed 29 is placed along side the window with the curtain hanging over a portion of the head thereof and a person can sleep therein with his head free to the outer air without any danger of drafts. The hinged, adjustable and detachable construction of the parts of the frame enables it to be fitted into windows of different widths and to be taken apart and compactly secured fortransportation in case the user desires to travel and have the use of the device at different places. The frame may be designated as an L-shaped braced adjustable frame. The inner ends of the side members are detachably connected to cross bars 20 and 21 by pins which are mounted in the ends of the side members and pass into holes in bars 20 and 21, being flush with the top of-the bars, as best shown in Fig. 4.
Having described my invention I claim;
A window tent frame composed of two body members; two side members hingedly connected to the body members at the top when positioned for use; adjustably connected crossbars hingedly connected to said body members; adjustably connected crossbars detachably connected to the inner ends of said side members; and detachably connected brace rods secured to said body and end members.
In witness that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto subscribed my name this 5th day of January 1918.
EVERETT W. JONES.
