Description

A. P. ACUIN.
WINDOWJACK.
APPLICATION men APR.25. me.
Patented J uly 9, 1918.
/a z y INVENTOR Amzmqa P /7 (111')? A rramvsy AMANDO P. ACUIN, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA.
W INDOW-J'ACK.
7 '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, -AMANDO P. Acorn, citizen of the United States, residing at 2209 Telegraph Ave, Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in WVindow-Jacks, ofwhich the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in window cleaning jacks and has for its obj ect the construction of a small, light weight cage which may be attached to the sill of a window and extend on the outside thereof and in which the cleaner may stand.
Another object of my invention is to so construct the device that the same may be compactly folded when not in use.
With these and other objects in View the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts herein illustrated and more specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
- Reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification,
Figure 1 is a view in perspective showing my improved device supported by a window sill.
Fig. 2 is a view in plan showing the same in its folded position.
Denoting corresponding parts in the several views by the same numerals of reference, my device is constructed of the base frame consisting of the longitudinal members 2 and 3 held in spaced relation by means of the cross member 4 and the various slats 5.
Extending centrally between members 2 and 3 is a safety frame comprising a rail 8 from which extends the upright posts 9 connected I at the top by the cross bar 10. The rail 8 is square in section and spring 7 is adapted to contact with one of these square sides thus tending to hold the frame composed of members 9 and 10, either in a vertical position as shown in Fig. 1, or in a folded horizontal position as shown in Fig. 2.
On the inner ends of 2 and 3 are pivotally secured posts 12, to the top of which are hinged the horizontal pieces 13, as indicated at 25, which horizontal pieces, in use, are adapted to extend over the window sill as shown in Fig. 1. Slidably connected to thesemembers are other pieces Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed April 25, 1916. Serial No. 93,382.
14' having the depending ends 15, terminating in hooks 16 adapted to engage under the inner ledge of the window sill. Member 14 is slotted as shown at 1'7, and a bolt 26 in member 13 extends through the slot 17 of member 14 to permit horizontal adjustment. A strap 18 is attached to the outer end of member 14 and encircles the member 13 thus cooperating with bolt 26 to hold the two members in parallel relation.
To the outer end of each of the members 2 and 3 is secured a bar or flexible cable 20, the other end of which engages an eye or hook 21 adjacent the upper end of post 12. I also provide rods or flexible cables 22 extending from the upper ends of member 9 to the upper end of post 12.
Having thus described my invention I use it as follows The body portion of device is placed on the outside of the window and the members 14 and 13 are so adjusted that the hook portion 16 closely engages under the ledge of the window sill. The nuts 24 on bolts 26 are then screwed tight preventing longitudinal movement between these members. Thus the person cleaning the window may stand on the strips 5 and his weight is borne by the post 12 and the guide members 20. The frame 9 with the cables 22 prevent him from falling from the sides of the platform thus devised.
When the device is not in use the members 20 and 22 are disengaged from the respective holding means which allows the safety frame to be folded flat on the base frame. The device may then be unfastened from the window sill and the post 12 can be folded backwardly, parallel with members 2 and 3 and the parts 13 which if they were not hinged to the post 12 would project upwardly, are then folded transversely inward and horizontal with the top of member 9, more particularly shown in Fig. 2. I provide the members 2 and 3 as well as the hooks 16 with tips 23 of soft material such as rubber.
While I have shown the preferred form and embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes may be made in detail and design without departing from the scope of the claims.
I claim as new and wish to cover by Letters Patent 1. A foldable window cleanin jack comprising a base frame, posts pivotally attached to the sides of said frame near the inner end thereof, arms attached to the tops of said posts and shaped to extend over a Window sill, a guard frame pivoted to said base frame at the outer end thereof, diagonal brace members extending from the topsof said posts to the outer ends of said base frame, and means for yieldably holding the guard frame in either open or closed position.
2. A WilldOW cleaning jack comprising a base frame, having horizontal side members, posts pivotally attached to said side members, extensible arms hinged on the upper ends of said posts, a guard frame pivotally mounted between said horizontal s1de members at the end opposite said posts, diagonal brace members extending from the top of said posts to the other end of said side mem bers, and spring means adapted. to hold said guard frame either in a vertical or a horizintal position.
In testimony whereof I aflix. my signature.
AMANDO P. AOUIN.
