This invention relates to folding beds for infants, and is designed primarily for out door use. The important object of the invention is to provide a bed of this character which may be 5 folded into a small and compact article for carrying and storing, and one which when extended, will be exceptionally rigid.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a bed having foldable sides and ends, which when moved to their active positions provide a housing above the bed bottom, to protect the infant occupying the bed against insects, such as iiies, mosquitoes or the like.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise em- 0 bodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may

be made within the scope of what is claimed,

without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the drawings in detail, the bed comprises a bottom indicated generally by the reference character 5, the bottom being rectangular in formation and constructed of side bars 6, which are connected at points intermediate their ends, by means of the hinges 7.

End bars 8 connect the side bars 6 at points adjacent to the ends of the side bars, to hold the side bars in proper spaced relation with respect to each other. The side and end bars are supplied with eye bolts 9, to which the spring structure 10 is connected.

Pivoted leg members 11 are connected to the bed bottom 5, at the ends thereof, and are so connected with the bed bottom that the leg members extend at oblique angles, with respect to the bed bottom, as clearly shown by Figure 2 of the drawings, thereby supporting the bed against movement. 5" The bed also embodies a frame or housing that is extended above the bed bottom, the frame or housing being covered on its sides and ends, with suitable mesh material 12, while the top of the frame is covered by a removable cover section 13, which may be of cloth material such as canvas, when a protecting cover against the elements is desired, or may be of mesh material or cloth commonly known as mosquito netting as shown at 13', should it be desired to protect the infant A against insects.

Hinges indicated at 14 connect the side members 15 of the frame, to the side bars 6 of the bed bottom, the hinges being so arranged that the side members may fold inwardly over the bed bottom, when it is desired to fold the bed for transportation.

The end members of the frame, which are inicated by the reference character 16 are connected to the end bars 8, by means of hinges 1'7, so that the end members may fold inwardly.

In connection with the construction of the hinges 17, it might be stated that the hinges 17 permit the end members to fold inwardly to lie in planes below the upper edge of the bed bottom, so that the side members 15 may fold directly thereover.

The end members 16 have upper sections 18 that are formed with inclined side edges, for purposes to be hereinafter more fully described.

Cut out portions 19 are formed in the upper surface of these upper sections, and are of widths to receive the cover supporting bars 20 that are pivotally connected intermediate their ends, by means of hinges 21.

Enlargements 22 are formed at the ends of the cover supporting bars 20, and provide shoulders that engage the inner surfaces of the upper sections of the end members, holding the end sections in their extended positions.

These bars also provide a support for the re- 5 movable cover 13, which may be constructed of cloth material or open mesh material as before stated.

Mounted on each of the side members, is a slidable fastener 24 which embodies spaced parallel sides fitted against the outer surfaces of the side members, the fasteners being provided with elongated openings 25 to receive the bolts 26, that are carried by one section of each side member.

Thus it will be seen that due to this construction, these slidable fasteners may be moved to positions over the upper edges of the meeting ends of the side members, securing the sections of the side members together.

Carried by the end members 16, are right angled plates 2'7 that have their free ends resting against the side members and formed with threaded openings to receive the set screws 28, that extend through the upper rails of the side members. so

The cover for the bed is formed with a hem provided along each side edge thereof, the hems being provided to receive the cover sticks 29, there being provided a pair of these sticks in each hem, to permit the cover to be folded at a point intermediate its ends.
