To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADLnR G. JOHNSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort Scott, in the county of Bourbon and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Button, of which the following is a specification.
The device forming the subject matter of this application is a button, and one object of the invention is to provide a button the constituent members of whichare held together in a novel way and assembled in a novel way with the material which carries the button. Another object of the invention is to provide a button which, being assembled with the end of a pair of suspenders, will prevent the end of the pair of suspenders from turning around the button or twistm It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility ofdevices of that type to which the invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings:-
Figure 1 shows in longitudlnal section,
a button constructed in accordance with the.
invention, assembled with the material which carries the button; Figs. 2 and 3 are sections on the line AB of Fig. 1, looking in opposite directions as indicated by the arrowsg'Fig. l is a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1; Fig. 5 is a fragmental elevation, showing a suspender end wherewith the device forming the subject matter of this application has been assembled, the button proper being sectioned.
Fig. 6 is a sectional detail showing a modified form of the invention.
The button forming the subject matter of this application may be made of. metal or any other material which will work readily and have the necessary rigidity, the button including a base 1 whichmay be of elongated form, as shown in Fig. 3. The base 1 carries spaced tubular posts 2. A head 3, which may be of circular outline,
issupported 011 the posts 2. The head 3 is supplied with openings 4 alined with the bores of the posts. The base 1 is placed upon the garment 5 or other material, securing devices such as rivets 6 being extended upwardly through the material, through the. base 1, through the tubular posts 2 and through the openings 4: in the head 3, the rivets having enlarged feet 10 which engage the material 5. The rivets are distorted or buttended as shown at 7, to engage the head 3, and, consequently, the constituent parts of the button are held together, and the button as an entity, is held on the material 5. The ends 7 of the rivets may be housed beneath the cap 8 having a marginal flange 9 extended beneath the periphery of the head 3 to hold the cap in place.
Noting Fig. 5, it will be obvious that when the spaced tubular posts 2 are mounted in the button hole 12 of the end 11 of a pair of suspenders, the end will be prevented from turning around the button or twisting on the trousers.
In Fig. 6 of the drawings, a modified form of the invention has been shown. In that figure, parts hereinbefore described have been designated by numerals previously used, with the suffix a. In Fig. 6, the securing device is made of wire or like material and is bent laterally to form a head 50 adapted to cooperate with the material spaced tubular posts; a head supported on the posts; and securing devices passing through the posts and engaging the head, the securing devices being extended beyond the base to form an attaching means for the button.
2. A button constructed as set forth in claim 1 and further characterized by a cap assembled with the head and housing the head-engaging ends of the securin devices.
3. A button comprising a base aving a post; a head supported on the post; a se- In testimony that I claim the foregoing as curing device passing through the post and my own, I have hereto affixed my signature engaging the head, the securing device'bein the presence of two Witnesses.
ing extended beyond the base to form an, 1 ADLER G. J OHNSON- attaching means for the button; and a cap "VVitnesses: assembled With the head'and housing the NETTIE AUsMAN, head-engaging end of the securing device. T. ITHICK.
