CHARLES H. BARROWS, OF WILLIMANTIC, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN PAPER-HOLDERS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, C. H. BARROWS, of Willimantic, in the county of Windham and in the State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Newspaper-Holders; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making a part of this specification, in which. v
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my device, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
' Letters of like name and kind refer to like parts in each figure.
The object of my invention is to furnish a simple, convenient, and inexpensive means whereby newspapers can be stored within a sitting-room; and it consists in the hereinafterdescribed device as a whole, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In the annexed drawing is shown my device, which is formed of or from a piece of wire in the following manner: The wire A, having a suitable length, is bent inward and across at its longitudinal center so as to form a loop or eye, B; from thence said wire extends in opposite directions outward, forward, and downward, for about ten inches, in a curve; it is then turned once around so as to form a coil, C; from thence it passes upward and inward, and then forward, outward, and again inward, in a curve, and has its hooked end passed through one portion of said coil C. A slide, E,
secured upon the overlapping bows D of the device, completes the same, which is to be sus pended against or upon a wall by means of a screw or nail passing through the eye B.
In using this device the bows D are drawn forward at their upward ends by means of the slide or button E, and papers, pamphlets, &c., inserted between said bows and the rear portion of the holder, after which, upon releasing said bows, they will spring back to place and closely confine thecontents of the device.
By extending the ends of the wire upward and outward, convenient hooks F are formed, uponwhich various articles may be suspended.
The device thus shown is simple in construction, useful, and can be furnished at a comparatively small cost.
Having thus fully set forth the nature and merits of my invention, what I clairnas new 1s The hereinbefore-described neWspaper-hold- .J ul y, 1872.
