oun'rnm AND SHADE, HoLnEn- Specification of iIietters Patent. T Patented luau 11 1911;
' Application filed October 2, 1918. Z 'seria no. 256,554;
' T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM A. SHEARER and CHARLES V. BRUCH, citizens of the United States,- residing at Gas City, in the county of Grant and "State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain and Shade Holders, of
' which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to curtain and shade supporting brackets and has for its object the production of a simple and eflicient shade and curtain supporting device which may be easily attached to a window frame for the purpose of permitting a curtain to be easily supported upon said frame.
Another object of this invention is the production of a simple and efiicient shade roller supporting means which is adjustable to accommodate itself to rollers of varying lengths.
invention consists of certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter-fully described and claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the curtain and shade roller supporting bracket, the window frame being shown in section,
Fig. 2 is 'a front elevation of one of the I brackets,
Fig. 3 is a side elevation thereof,
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the bracket looking at the opposite sides from that shown in Fig. 3,
Fig. 5 is a side elevation of one of the shade supporting brackets, which is provided with the roller engaging notch.
By referring to the drawings, it will be seen that 1 designates the curtain supporting rod which comprises a hollowtube having an adjustable end 2. This adjustable end 2 is provided with laterally extending portions 3, the laterally extending portions 3 thereof being fitted within the hollow portions or sockets 4 carried "by the curtain bracket plate '5. In view of the fact that the curtain supporting rod 1 is provided with an adjustable end 2, the adjustable end being slidably mounted within the rod 1, it will be seen that the rod 1 may be adjusted to various widths of windows.
As shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing, each bracket 5 is provided with a socket 4 for the purpose of receiving the adjustable end 2 of the rod or pole 1, and each bracket 5 is With these and other objects in view this provided with an outwardly extending thumb screw supportingplatefi and a guiding plate 6 formed integral with the bracket the plate 6, after the same has been once adjusted. A milled cap 9 is carried by the thumb screw 7 as shown in Fig. 2 for the purpose of facilitating the rotation of. the thumb screw 7 through the plate 6. The shade bracket 5 carries a spring arm 10, the spring arm 10 extending outwardly in the same direction as the socket 4; and being engaged by means of the inner end of the thumb screw 7 By considering Fig. 2, it will be seen that the thumb screw 7 may be threaded through the plate 6 for the purpose of drawing the spring arm or tongue 10 inwardly toward the plate 5 for forcing the same outwardly therefrom, to adjust the plate 10 with respect to the shade roller 11 which is adapted to be supported upon the plate 10. It should be understood that each of the brackets 5 is provided with a similar spring plate 10, the spring plate 10 of the respective bracket 5 being arranged upon opposite sides of the window frame, for the purpose of conveniently supporting a shade roller 11 indicated in Fig. 1 of the drawing. The plates 10 are provided with suitable apertures and sockets for the purpose of receiving the bearing portion of the shade roller 11 as is usual with such shade roller supporting means. It of course should be understood that the thumb screw 7 is secured at its end to the plate 10 for the purpose of permitting the plate 10 to be swung to and fro or laterally with respect to the supporting bracket 5.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that a very simple and efficient shade roller and curtain roller or curtain pole supporting bracket is produced which is formed of sheet metal and which may be against longitudinal movement through the plate 6 and thereby firmly hold or support a curtain shade roller 11 between the opposite shade supporting arms or tongue 10.
It of course should be understood that certain obvious detail mechanical changes may be made in'the present devicewithout de parting from the spirit of the invention, so long as these changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimedis:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a combination curtain. and shade bracket comprising a body provided with an outwardly extending shade supporting spring arm projecting at right angles from said body, said body provided with a socket formed thereon for receiving a curtain supporting means, a thumb screw supporting plate carried by said body and extending substantially parallel with said spring arm, a thumb screw threaded through said thumb screw supporting plate, guiding means for said thumb screw, and lock nutsmounted upon opposite sides-of said thumb screw supporting ,plates for-locking said thumb screw in a set adjusted position.
Genres o 2. As a new article of manufacture, a curtain and shade supporting bracket comprising a body provided with a projecting spring tongue extending substantially at right angles to said'body, a thumb screw supporting plate formed integral with said body and extending substantially parallel with said springtongue, guiding means for said thumb screw interposed between said spring tongue and said thumb screw supporting plate, lock nuts threaded upon said thumb screw upon opposite sidesof said thumb screw supporting platefor locking said thumb screw in an adjusted position upon said plate, a curtain rod supporting means formed integral with saidnbody, and said thumb screw adapted to swing said spring tongue upon said body to adjust the same to a convenient engagement with a curtain roller adapted to be supported thereby.
lntestimony whereof we afiix our signa tures in'presence of two witnesses.
