To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE KoLoDIJ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kulpmont, in the county of Northumberland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Curtain-Pole and Shade Brackets, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in adjustable curtain pole and shade brackets.

The primary object of this invention is the provision of a combined shade roller and curtain pole support that is readily secured in operative position upon a window casing and is adjustable in length for accommodating the same to windows of different widths and to rollers and poles of different length.

A further object of the device is the pro vision of a mounting member readily secured centrally of a window casing and having supports slidably mounted thereon, the said supports being readily adjustable in length for engaging the same with a shade roller and for supportingly accommodating a curtain pole.

In carrying out the invention, a mounting plate is arranged for attachment centrally of the upper cross piece of a window frame and forwardly of the window and having supporting arms slidably carried thereby and being adjustable in length, shade roller brackets and curtain pole holding loops being arranged adjacent the opposite ends of the said arms.

With these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel combination. and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.

In the drawings forming a part of this application and in which like-designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views :Figure 1 is a front elevation of the upper portion of a Window sash provided with the present device. Fig. 2 is a vertical substantially central transverse sectional view thereof. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of an end portion of the device. Fig. 4 is a top plan view thereof, parts being broken away and partially in horizontal section, and Figs. 5 and 6 are vertical transverse sectional views taken upon lines VV of Fig. 4.

It being understood that the device is designed for employment with different widths of windows, the same is herein illustrated in connection with a window casing 10 having the device operatively secured to the top or cross member 11 thereof. An attaching plate 12 angular in cross section is provided having a rearwardly projecting bottom flange 13, the plate being adapted to flatly engage the outer face of the casing top piece 11 and with the flange 13 thereunder, the plate being secured by holdfast devices such as screws 14. Projecting forwardly in oblique lines from the ends of the plate are arms 15 which terminate in fiat horizontally disposed ears to which straps or keepers are attached and which receive the hereinafter described supporting bars therethrough. Flat supporting bars or arms 17 are arranged in fiat engagement with each other at their overlapped inner portions, which portions are slidably arranged through the said straps 16. A loop 18 is provided at the free inner end of each of the bars 17 which encircles the companion bar whereby the combined support thus formed by the two bars 17 is adjustable in length, and whereby its opposite ends 19 may be positioned at a desired point adjacent the opposite sides of the window. The said outer ends 19 of the bars or arms 17 are provided with cooperating shade roller supporting brackets 20 and 21 having differently formed perforations 22 therethrough in substantial horizontal alinement whereby the usual form of shade bracket is operatively positioned therein by moving the said bars 17 and brackets 20 and 21 relatively of each'other, thus positioning the opposite ends of the shade roller (not shown) within the said perforations 22.

Substantially semi-circular supporting loops 23 are attached to the opposite ends 19 of the bars 17 and within which a curtain pole may be readily positioned. The said loops 23 are each formed of a single piece of strip metal folded upon itself and inclosing the adjacent end 19 of the supporting bar 17, while the folds are separated and formed in the shape of a terminal ring 24 at the outer ends of the said loops 23 which provides a means for retarding the and VL-V I respectively ,tive sliding movement of the bars 17 allow the device to accommodate a desirable length of shade roller and pole in proper relations respecting the desired width of window with which the same is employed.

lVhile the form of the invention herein shown and described is what is believed to be the preferred embodiment thereof, it

is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

\Vhat I claim as new is A device of the class described comprising a mounting plate angular in cross-section having a rearwardly projecting baseattaching flange, arms projecting forwardly at oblique angles from the opposite ends of the said plate, and terminating in flathorizontally-extending ears, straps in horizontal alinement With each other carried by the free ends of the said ears, bars having overlapped portions relatively slidable and positioned through the said straps, shade roller brackets mounted adjacent the outer ends of the said bars and having shade roller receiving openings therein, the said brackets being relatively movable during the actuating of the said bars, and curtain pole supporting loops carried by the outer ends of said bars.
