Be it known that I, THOMAS GARNETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Salina, in the county of Saline, State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful lVindow-Blind and Lace-Curtain Holder; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it. appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to an improved window blind and lace curtain holder, and has for its object to provide a device of this character which embodies novel features of construction whereby it can be readily applied to any conventional window casing and will provide a very convenient and effective means for supporting the window blind and curtain.
Further objects of the invention are to provide a device of this character which can be inexpensively formed of sheet metal, which can be placed in position upon the window frame and removed therefrom without the use of any tools, which will not injure the window casing or mar the front thereof, and which admits of the bracket arms being adjusted after the clamping plates have been mounted in position.
Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel combinations and arrangements of the parts as will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the novel features thereof being pointed out in the appended claims.
For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a. front elevation of a double window casing which is provided with a window blind and lace curtain holder constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a detail view of the intermediate clamping plate which is secured to the middle of the double window.
Fig. 3 is a similar view of one of the end clamping plates.
Fig. 4 is a detail view of an end of one of the clamping plates, showing the clamping slide which is mounted upon the back thereof.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
In Fig. l the invention is shown for the purpose of illustration as applied to the casing A of a. double window, the intermediate plate 1 being arranged between the two window openings, while the end plates 2 are applied to opposite sides of the window casing. The plate 1 has an elongated formation, the upper and lower edges thereof being returned forwardly at 3 to provide overhanging guide flanges for engagement with the slides 4 which carry the bracket arms 5, while the ends of the plate are bent rear wardly at 6, the corners between the rearwardly extended arms 6 and the ends of the plate 1 being stiffened and reinforced by outwardly pressed ribs 7. Clamping screws 8 are threaded in the end wings6 and have the inner ends thereof swiveled in rearwardly compressed portions 9 of L-shaped clamping slides 9. The base 9 of each of the slides fits against the back of the plate 1 and has the ends thereof returned at 9 around the guide flanges 3 at the upper and lower edges of the plate 1. The clamping slides are thus free to be moved toward and away from each other, and the free ends thereof may terminate in claws 9 for biting into and engaging the wood of the window casing, thereby rendering it impossible for the clamping plate to he accidentally pulled out of position, after it has once been clamped upon the window casing and properly adjusted. The slides 4 which carry the bracket arms 5 are slidable between the guide flanges 3 at the upper and lower edges of the plate 1, and are provided with locking screws 10 by means of which they can be held securely in an adjusted position. The head of each of the locking screws is shown as provided at the base thereof with a flange 10 which projects over the edge of one of the guide flanges 3 and is brought into a tight frictional engagement therewith when the locking screw is tightened. The bracket arms 5 may be of any suitable shape, being shown in the present instance as forked at 5 for the support of a conventional curtain rod. and as provided at 5* with suitable openings for engagement with the end studs of a shade roller.
The end plates 2 have a somewhat analogous construction, having the upper and lower edges thereof returned forwardly to provide guide flanges 12, while the ends thereof terminate in rearwardly extending arms 13. reinforcing ribs 11 being pressed outwardly at the corner between the rearwardly extending arms and the plate. One of these arms 13 has a clamping screw 8 threaded therein, said clamping screw engaging a clamping slide 9 which is identical in construction with the slides just described and cooperates with the opposite arm 13 of the clamping plate 2 to grip the window casing. This arm 13 may be provided with teeth 13 for biting into and gripping a casing. Slides 4: provided with bracket arms 5 are adapted to be applied to the fronts of the plates 2 and clamped in adjusted positions thereon by means of the locking screws 10. The slides at are adapted to 'be used interchangeably in connection with any of the clamping plates, and the middle portions of the slides are crimped or deflected outwardly atat so that they will clear the reinforcing ribs ll at the ends of the plates when the slides are being slipped into position or removed therefrom.
A modification is shown by Figs. 7 and 8 in which the plates are intended to be connected by springs and to be retained in position upon the window casing by the tension of the springs. The intermediate plate is formed in two complemental sections 15 and 15 the front section 15 having the upper and lower edges thereof returned forwardly to provide guide flanges 16 for engagement with the bracket carrying slides l, while the plate 15 fits slidably against the back of the plate 15 and has a pin and slot connection 17 therewith. The outer ends of the two plates 15 and 15* terminate in rearwardly extended arms 18 which have inn ardly extending teeth 19 at the extremities thereof. The opposite end of the plate 15 is provided with a short extension 20 which is adapted to be connected to a. conventional coiled tension spring while the opposite end of the plate 1.5 terminates in a bar 21 which passes loosely through an opening in the arm 18 of the plate 15 and is adapted to be connected at 22 to another coiled tension spring of the conventional type. The tension of the two springs tends to draw the clamping arms 18 toward each other and to hold them in av firm engagement with the window casing. The corresponding end plates 24 are provided with the upper and lower guide flanges 25 for engagement with the bracket carrying slides 4:. one extremity of the plate terminating in a shortextension 26 which is intended to be connected to a coiled tension spring, while the other extremity terminates in a rearwardly extending arm 27 having teeth 28 at the extremity thereof which are adapted to bite into and engage the side of the window casing. The bracket carrying slides at are interchangeable and canbe used in connection with any of the clamping plates.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A device of the character described including an elongated plate adapted to lit against the front of a window casing and provided at its upper and lower edges with forwardly returned guide flanges, integral wings projecting rearwardly from the ends of the plate and adapted to embrace the window casing, an L-shaped clamping jaw having one arm thereof fitted slidably' against the back of the plate and provided at its edges with returned portions extending around and slidably engaging the returned guide flanges of the plate. a clamping screw threaded in one of the wings and engaging the other arm of the jaw, a slide mounted upon the front of the plate between the guide flanges. and a. bracket arm projecting from the slide and carried thereby, the position of the bracket arm being adjustable by moving the slide.
2. A deice of the character described, including an elongated plate adapted to fitagainstthe front of a window casing and having returned guide flanges at. its upper and lower edges, said plate being provided at its ends with rearwardly extending integral wings and reinforcing ribs being pressed outwardly at the intersection of the plate and wings. a clamping jaw slidably mounted upon the back of the plate a re movable slide adjustably mounted between the guide flanges on the front of plate. said slide being recessed at the back thereof to clear the before mentioned reinforcing ribs. and abracket arin carried by the slide and adjustable by shifting the position of the slide.
