IMPROVEMENT IN TABLES AND STEP-LADDERS COMBINED.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 129,579, dated July 16, 1872.
Specification describing a certaim Improvement in Tables, invented by R. W. MYERS, of New York city, county, and State.
The nature of my invention consists in combining a step-ladder with a table, which, to this end, is constructed of two parts suitably hinged together, so that one part may be folded to rest upon the top of the other. Each part of the table is provided with a section of a step-ladder, of such length that when the table is unfolded or extended for ordinary use both sections of the ladder-which are then located beneath the tab1e--sha1l extend to the floor, and aid in supporting the table and the sections of the ladder are so arranged, relatively, that when the folding part of the table is turned up the section of the ladder attached to it shall form an extension of the section on the stationary part of the table.
Figure 1 represents asection of m y improved table as it appears when ready for ordinary use. Fig. 2 represents a section thereof, showing the folding part of the table turned up and resting upon the stationary part, so as to bring the sections of the step-ladder in position for use.
The same letters of reference are used in both figures in the designation of identical parts.
The table illustrated in the annexed drawing is composed of two parts, A and B, which are suitably hinged together, so that one part may be folded upon the other in the manner shown in Fig. 2. Each part is provided with a pair of legs opposite to the side where it is jointed to the other, and from the sides where the parts are connected together project two sections of a step-ladder, which are, at the upper ends, firmly secured to the respective rails, which support the leaves of the parts A B. The section 0 of the ladder, which is fixed to the part A of the table, projects downward therefrom, inclining outward from the legs of such part. The section D is fastened in like manner to the part B of the table, but inclines from the rails thereof toward the legs of such part, and its side pieces are, at the lower ends, secured to such legs, so as to give the required rigidity to this section of the ladder, which is the one folded over with the part B of the table when the ladder is to be brought into position for use, as indicated in Fig. 2. The side pieces of the section 0, extending down to the floor, aid in supporting the device, both as a table and as a step-ladder.
