Be it known that 1, Ann KRAM R, a citizen of the lnitcd States, and resident of Des Moincs, in the county of Polk and State of Iowa. have invented a certain new and useful hatety-lfinvelop, of which the following is a specification.
The object of 'iny invention is to provide asafety envelop of simple, durable and inexpensive construction.
More particularly it is my object to provide an envelop of the type which, by slight modification, may have a single'safety element, or a double safety or protection element, or a triple safety or protection element.
' With these and other objects in view my invention consists in the construction, orrangement and combination of the various parts'of the device whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows a plan view of the inside of an envelop embodying; my invention.
Fig. 2 shows a plan view of the back of the envelop in closedposition.
' Fig. 3 shows a plan view of a modified form of my invention with the flaps open.
Fig. 1 shows a plan view of the hack of the envelop shown in Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 shows a view of the rear or back surface of another modified form of my onvelop having the triple safety feature with the flaps open; and
Fig. 6 shows a plan view of the rear or back of the envelop shown in Fig. 5 closed.
In the accompanying drawings I have used the reference numeral 10 to indicate the side Wings or flaps of an envelop of the kind embodying my invention.
Secured to the front of the envelop is what T will call a lower flap 11 having adhesivematerial 12 at its edge. In the flap 1], is cut spaced, alined slots 13 bet een which is formed a tongue 16 having adhesive n'iiiterial 12 on its inside surface.
At the top of the envelop is the upper flap 17 having a central 18. The tongue 22 and the flap 21 near the edges thereof are provided with adhesive material 1:2 similar to that already described. An upper flap :3 provided.

The flap 2] is providi-d (apposite the tongue 3U with slots 24 and a tongue 25 similar to those described in connection with the description of the (lap 2 It, will be noticed that the tongues 22 and 26 are staggered with relation to each other. so that when the envelop, shown in Fig. 3 is completed. the llap ill ma) be sealed to the side wings 2H. and thereafter the flap 23 mav be l'oldcd over and tho tongue :32 inserted through the slots 2h whereby the tongue 2-3 is formed, while the tongue 26 may be inserted through the slot 2- in the flap 21 in the same way.
The completed envelop thus described is shown in Fig. 4.
In Figs. 5 and 6 I have shown another form of my invention slightly difi'erent from the ones heretofore described.
In the form of the envelop shown in Figs. 5 and 6 there is a frontportion having end wings 27 arranged to overlap each other when folded over the front portion. A lower flap 28 is provided with spaced pairs of slots 29. l-\rranged at right angles to each slot 24 is a pair of slots 30 between which is formed a tongue 31.
At the edge of the flap 28 at the middle thereof is a tongue 32. An upper flap 3.3 is provided and has spaced tongues 36 adapted to enter the slots 29, spaced between the tongues so as to admit the tongue 82. The various tongues hercinbefore described are provided on their under surfaces with adhesive material 12 near their edges as are the flaps 28and 35.
In the completion of the envelop shown in Figs. 5 and 6., the lower flap is folded up and the upper flap is then folded over the 5 tion of the flap and is sealed thereto. It f will be noted that the various tongues 18, 22, 26, 32 and may be sealed to the outer sur- 351 faces of the opposite flapswithout the use of the slots if desired.
It will also be notedthat in Figs. 1 and 9.
I have shown an envelop with a single safety or protecting device. In Figs. 3 and ii. an envelop with a double safety protecting means is shown, and in Figs. 5 and 6 an envelop with a triple safety or protecting means is shown.
It will be seen that with an envelop of this kind it would be impossible to get inside the envelop without leaving evidence that the. envelop had been tampered with.
The flap and tongues herein described may be made of double thickness to make them stiff and easier to manipulate.
It may be noted that itwould be easy to make an envelop of this kind the inside of the front of which. and the inside of the end flaps of which could be used for letter writing purposes.
I claim as my invention:
An envelop having a front portion, overlapping end wings folded over against said front portion, a lower flap and an upper flap, each of said flaps being provided with a tongue and with a slot, shaped to form a smaller tongue, the tongue of one flap being opposite the slotof the other flap, said tongues being provided with adhesive ma terial on their nmcr surfaces, whereby the tongue of one flap may be inserted through the slot in the other flap, and sealed to said end wings, whereby the flap formed adjacent to each slot may be sealed to the tongue of the opposite flap, and so that adjacent to each end of the envelop each flap will be sealed to an end wing and to the other flap.
