To all 'whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HARRY D. NAUM, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Newburgh, in the county of Orange and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Envelope, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

My invention relates to improvements in envelops, and has for its object to provide an envelop, which, after it has been sealed, cannot be opened without destroying or so damaging the envelop as to plainly show that the same has been opened or tampered with.

Other objects and advantages of my invention will appear in the course of the following specification.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a plan view of an envelop (opened) made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through an envelop (folded) also made in accordance with my invention.

Referring to the drawings, which illustrate the preferred embodiment of my invention, l designates the front or that portion of the envelop adapted to receive the address. Preferably integrally connected to the upper longitudinal edge of the front 1 is a row or series of iive oblong tongues designated from left to right, as 2, 2a, 2", 2c and 2d. The tongues are spaced from each other by narrow cut-out portions 3 which terminate in V-shaped notches 4. The outer sides of the tongues 2 and 2d are cut down, as shown, at their outer sides or edges in the same manner as are their inner edges. The tongues have their upper corners rounded and on both sides are coated with a suitable adhesive for a purpose to be hereinafter described. Preferably each alternate tongue, in this instance 2tL and 2c, at their point of juncture with the front 1, is provided with a transverse line or row of perforations 5.

Integral with each end or side of the front l are approximately triangular flaps 6 and 7, one side of the triangles being on a plane common with the top or upper edge of the front. Suitably attached to the lower edge of the front l, but which of course may be an integral portion thereof, is a middle portion or flap 8, which is preferably similar in shape and size to the front. Also located at the lower longitudinal edge of the front l, and preferably an integral portion thereof, is a triangular bottom flap 9. As shown, the bottom Hap is gummed around the inside of its outer or free edges.

The middle flap 8 is provided with a series of six narrow, parallel, transverse lines or streaks of adhesive material 10, which are so proportioned and positioned with respect to the tongues that when the envelop is in position for use, that is, with the middle flap 8 turned up against the front l, and the side flaps 6 and 7 secured to the back of the middle lap by the lines of adhesive l0, and the triangular bottom flap 9 secured in position with its gummed edges overlapping the edges of the side flaps 6 and 7 and also secured by the lines of adhesive 10; it follows that a pocket or passage 1l having a clear and unobstructed passageway from the top of the envelop to the bottom thereof will be formed opposite each tongue. It is in this folded condition or form that the envelops will be sold to the public, and, hence, the only thing the users of the envelops will have to do is to moisten the adhesive on both sides of the tongues 2, 2a, 2b, 2C and 2d, which are narrower than the pockets l1, and then push the tongues into the pockets l1, which are directly opposite them, and then by pressing on the envelop, the tongues will be securely sealed within the pockets and, hence., to the back of the middle ap 8, and to the side flaps 6 and 7 and the bottom flap 9.

What I claim is An envelop formed with a front side having a series of oblong, narrow tongues projecting from the upper edge of said front side and provided with adhesive material, a back side corresponding to the front side and projecting from the lower edge thereof and folded against the front side, said back side portion having a series of vertical,
