SNAP-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 28, 1919.
Application filed October 3, 1918. Serial No. 256,661.
upper member is provided with a socket to,
receive said stud when the two members constituting the fastening are snapped together.
My invention has for its object the construction of a device of this character of such construction as will prevent the twisting of the same when sewn in place upon a garment and the consequent cutting of the thread by means of which it is secured in place.
Other objects will be in part obvious fromv the annexed drawing and in part indicated in connection therewith by the following analysis of this invention.
In the accompanying drawing,
Figure 1 is a plan view of the socket-car-V rying member;
Fig. 2 an edge view thereof, and
Fig. 3 an enlarged broken plan view similar to Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing in detail, 4 designates a base member provided with a socket 5, and with openings 6 through which the securing thread is passed in sewing the fastener in place upon the garment.
The member 5 is provided with a serrated or milled edge 7 and in sewing the member et in place the thread is passed through the apertures 6 and over the edge 7 of the member, the thread thus seating in the serrations or milling 7 and preventing the twisting of the member l and the consequent cutting of the thread with which the same is sewn in place.
While I have shown the invention as applied to the stud member of the fastener, it will be understood that the complementary socket member is also provided with a similar serrated or milled edge, and that the thread employed in securing that member in place is passed over the edge of such socket member, thus preventing its twisting as in the case of the stud member described.V
I realize that considerable variation is possible in the details of construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of my invention, and I therefore do not intend to limit myself to the specific form shown and described.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is As an `article of manufacture, a snap fastener having a fla-t circular flange provided with thread receiving apertures therethrough and having its peripheral edge serrated or milled to provide grooves to receive the thread by which said fastener is sewn in place whereby toprevent the twisting of said fastener and the cutting of such thread.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LEO S. KOSITCHEK.
