Description

T. W. BENNETT.
TEAPOT AND OTHER VESSELS HAVING SIMILAR SPOUTS. APPLlCATl ON FILED APR. 11, m1.

FIG I UNITED STATES PATENT UTFTEE THOMAS WOOD BENNETT, OF BURSLEM, ENGLAND.
TEAPOT AND OTHER VESSELS HAVING SIMILAR SPOUTS.
Application filed April 17, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS WOOD BEN- NETT, subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, and resident of Burslem, in the county of Stafford, England, have invented certain Improvements in or in Connection with Teapots and other Vessels Having Similar Spouts of which the following is a specification.
y invention relates to improvements in or in connection with teapots and other vessels made of pottery and like ware, metal or the like having spouts of a similar character to those usually employed on teapots, coffee pots or the like, the object being to provide means for protecting the outer ends of the spouts from being chipped or bent and thus impairing their good pouring qualities. A further object is to provide means in the spout for restricting the flow of the liquid being poured.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side View of a teapot provided with a spout according to this invention, and showing the spout partially in section. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the spout.
The body portion A of the teapot is of any approved form and material, and is preferably of china or pottery ware. The pouring spout a of the teapot is provided at its end with a forwardly curved lip g of reduced size which forms a shoulder or pro jection (Z around the spout. This lip is provided with an internally projecting Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 28, 1919.
Serial No. 162,800.
flange e at the top of its rear side. The edge of this flange may have any suitableshape, and it is usually curved as shown. This flange reduces the area of the bore at the tip or end of the lip, and it retards the flow of liquid in a manner to insure its steady pouring. It also strengthens the pouring end of the spout. A protecting collar 6 of soft material, such as india rubber, is secured upon the lip g, and its lower edge rests against the shoulder (Z. The upper end of the lip is flush with the upper end of the collar, and the collar protects the china or pottery lip from being chipped and broken.
What I claim is: A pot of fragile material provided With a pouring spout having a forwardly curved lip at the front side of its delivery end portion, said spout having also a shoulder extending outwardly around it below the said lip, and having also a flange which projects forwardly from its rear side portion crosswise of its pouring opening and toward the said lip, and a protecting collar of relatively soft material secured around the end portion of the spout and bearing against the said shoulder.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand inv the presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS lVOOD BENNETT. Vitnesses:
WILLIAM H. TAYLOR, AMY EVELINE Evms.
