SUGAR-DISPENSING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 14,1913.
Application filed May 11, 1912. Serial No. 696,786.
T 0 @H trimm 'it may concern.'
Be it known that I, NEAL E. lVooD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chanute, in the county of Neosho and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Sugar-Dispensing Device, of which the fol` lowing is a specification.
The device herein disclosed is a sanitary dispensing` structure designed for table use and adapted to be employed as an adjunct to a sugar bowl or like container.
The invention aims to guard against the spilling or wasting of the sugar in removing it by spoonsful from the sugar-bowl or vessel for table use.
A still further object is to carry out the aforesaid end in a simple, inexpensive and effective manner.
The invention consists of certain instrumentalities and features substantially as hereinafter fully disclosed and defined by the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing, illust-rating the preferred embodiment of my invention wherein it will be understood that such changes and modifications may be made as relate to the detailed construction and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of the invention, Figure l is a side elevation showing the invention as applied to a sugar bowl or vessel, for table use. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device removed from t-he sugar vessel. Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation of the device.
ln putting my invention into practice, l form a hollow or tubular stem member l, having a spoon bowl or chamber 2 preferably of approximately conical outline, with which the stem or tubular member l has screwthreaded connection, and a sleeve 3 and an annular jam nut 4, the sleeve and the nut being applied externally to an extended screw-threaded surface 5 upon the tubular or stem member l, this surface extending from the outer or upper end thereof inwardly.
As disclosed by Fig. l, the tubular stem member l is inserted at its upper or outer end through a. central 4orifice 6 provided in the closure T of a sugar bowl 8.
The inserted end of the tubular stem member l has applied thereto, upon the underside of the sugar bowl closure 7, the jam nut 4, the sleeve 3 then being applied from the upper side of said closure to said out-er end of the stem-member and screwed down tightly, its inner or lower end having a shoulder' or flange 9 engaging the outer or upper surface of the sugar-bowl closure 7, thus providing for clamping the stem to the bowl closure. Thevouter end of the sleeve 3 which also serves as a pouring nozzle or spout is closed by a plug or closure l0, for the retention of the sugar in the stem l when the bowl S is being supplied with sugar, and is in inverted position, the plug or closure being removed, of course, in pouring the sugar.
It will be noted that when it may be de sired to remove a spoonful or less of the sugar from the bowl 8, it is only required to invert the latter, whereupon the sugar will enter the bowl 2 and the stem l and by then displacing the plug or closure l0 of the stem, the sugar will flow out. Also it will be further observed that, by suitably adjusting the stem l toward or away from the bottom of the vessel the stem may be wholly or partially filled, thereby graduating the quantity.
of sugar removed.
It is to be observed that the device is perfectly sanitary and that the contents cannot become casually saturated; further, contents are well ventilated and are kept free from dirt and microbes.
What is claimed is 1. A device of the type described, including a tubular member or stem having a bowl or chamber applied to one end thereof with its containing portion in continuation of the bore of said stem, said stem having externally applied thereto, at its opposite end, a sleeve one end of which is adapted to serve as a pouring spout, and having inserted therein a closure, and a am-nut also applied to said stem, said spouted sleeve having a flange at its inner end, adapted to cooperate with said jam-nut in applying the device for use.
2. A device of the type described, including a tubular member or stem having a bowl or chamber applied to one end thereof with its containing portion in continuation of the bore of said stem, said stem having externally applied thereto, at its opposite end, a sleeve one end of which is adapted to serve as a pouring spout, and having inserted therein a closure, and a jam-nut also applied to said stem, said spouted sleeve having a l my own, I have hereto affixed my signature flange agite inner end, adapted to eoperte in the presence of two Witnesses. Wit sai jam-nut in applying jche device or y use, said stem having an extended external NEAL E' WOOD' 5 screw-threaded surface for said spouted Witnesses:
