To all whom 1f mag/concern:
Be it known-that I, WENZEL C.'URBA1}IEK, a citizen of the United States, and residentl of Manitowoc, in the county of Manitowoc and State of Wisconsin, haveinvented .certain new and useful Improvements in- Porous Heads for Containers; and Ido hereby de- Clare that the following'is a full, clear,- and exact description thereof. fl' v My invention has for its'object toprovide a simple, economical and effective valvecontrolled porous head for fluid-containers,
the same being-adapted to receive fluiddressings or analogous liquids' chemicallyA prepared whereby@ said lliquids can -be applied directly to articles being treated, the device beingespecially adapted for use kin connection with cleaningfluids, which fluidsare distributed to the head incidental to inversion of the container whereby the said `head is saturated;
Incarryingout my invention I provide a conical gravity-controlled double-seating valve-member, which valve member is loosely` nested withina conical discharge nipple that l projects into an auxiliary liquid containing i reservoir constitutingpart of the head, said conical nipple' being alined'vwithl a lower feed aperture in the reservoir wall, which aperture is normallyfclosed by the valvemember whereby 'a quantity of Huid is trapped within said reservoir even though the valve is imperfectly seated, while at the .same time the main body of the fluid within the container or vessel is j practically sealed against evaporation'r Another object of my invention is to forml the chamber portionof the head in two parts whereby cheapness of construct-ion will result due to ready assemblage of said parts in con'unction with a container shankl which maye threaded or otherwise.-
With the above objects in view the invention consists in certain eculiar'ities of construct-ion and combinatlon of parts as set forth hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings and subsequently claimed.
The'accompanying drawing represents an elevation of a container partly broken away and in section provided with a porous head embodying the features of my invention, the
n head being illustrated in section.
Referring by characters to the drawin 1 represents a vvessel or container provi ed with a screw-threaded neck 2 to which .neck

.- is fitted the ,threaded lia-nge 3 of a porous head embodying my invention, The head is Y formed with a lower concavofconvexed wall 4 that is provided with a centrally disposed aperture formed by an upturned lipv 4 the terminal edge of which is slightly above the lowest plane of the wall. The upper edge of this wall is connected by a seam-joint 5 to an upper wall 6, which wall i's provided soL with-a centrally disposed conical discharge nipple 7, the same being flared outwardly vat itsv lower end in -alineme'nt with the lower wall aperture and at a slight distance there# from.l Loosel'y fitted within the conical discharge nipple is a conical valve-plug 8, the
lower face4 of which is adaptedy to seat againstthe upper edge of the lip kk4 about the lower wall aperture, while the conical face of said valve-plug is arranged to seat against the inner wallof the nipple inci:
dental to the vessel being inverted. Bythis construction' it #will be observed that the upper and-lower walls '6 and 4 respectively, form an auxiliary'reservoir/withinV the head,
the `feed and discharge apertures being c'ontrolled bythe valve-plug.
The edges of a porous jacket flare,crimpedv within the seam-j oint 5 as shown and interposed betweenthe jacket' and upper wall `6. of the reservoir there is a -filling orpadof absorbent material 9', which material is normally saturated-"with the liquid that 1s aol fedthrough the discharge ni ple. Afterthc, y
edges of the jacket'9 have een secured to the seam, the upper inturnedxedge of the flange 3 isadjusted 'to the seam, whereby the jacket lis further secured and the partsh draw-n tightly together due to the fact that.'
as said shank is screwed into position it will cause the lower edge of the seaml 5i to seat securely upon the mouth of they container.
As s own I also provide-a slip cover 10 which is tted over the jacket 9 and upper portionof the .shank 3 whereby the moist pad Iis protected incidental `to the container ture and hence it will be observed that the contents of the bottle will be prevented from evaporation. Should the vessel be inadvertently dropped upon its side there will be no appreciable leakage owing to the factthat the pressure of the liquid will cause the valve-plug to seat within the nipple and the small quantity of liquid which will escape through the feed-nozzle will be trapped within the reservoir. It is also apparent that should the moisture in the pad be eX- hausted that theoperator can, by slightly gyrating the container cause more of the liquid to be fed thereto.
I claim: i
A porous head for liquid containers comprising a concavo-convexed lower wall section having an upturned lipped feed aperture centrally thereof, an upper wall section in seamed engagement with the lower wall section, the upper wall section being provided with a centrally disposed depend' ing conical discharge nipple, said wall sections constituting a reservoir, a conical valve-plugloosely nested within the nipple adapted to serve alternately as a closure for said nipple and feed aperture, a pad of absorbent material fltted over the Aouter face of the upper wall section, a porous jacket fitted over the pad having its edges secured within the seam of the two wall sections, and a detachable threaded iange fitted over the wall section seam engageable with the porous jacket, whereby said jacket and the pad are secured to the reservoir, the threads of the flange being provided for attachment to the head of a container.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Manitowoc in the county of Manitowoc and State of Wisconsin in the presence of two witnesses.
