Application filed J'une 13, 1917, Serial No. 174,509. Renewed December 9, 1918. Serial No.'265,962. v
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, FRED A. SEBnNsTE,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Hammond, in the county of Lake and State of Indiana, have invented certaln new and useful Improvements in Tobacco-Plpes, of
which the following'is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in tobacco pipes, One ObjGCUlS to prov1de a pipe that is so constructed as to afford a sanltary-smoke as the smoke passes from the bowl to the smoke passagein the stem without'carrying'withit any portion of the condensed nic-otineor other deleterious residuum; A further object is to provide a pipe'in which tobacco cannot possibly clog the stem, and in-which the'stem is at all times retained absolutely free from ash from the pipebowl. A further objectis toprovide a pipeprovided with a part1- 'tioned residue compartment in Which-the liquid residuum and the dry or ash residuum are keptseparate, said compartment being readily removable from the pipeto permit it'to be thoroughly and readily' cleansed. With the foregoing-and other objects in viewthe invention consists inthe combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fullydescribed, pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in theaccompanying drawing which forms apart of this specificatiom- The illustration is a=longitudinal sectional view through a to my invention.
The reference numeral 1 denotes the bowl of the pipe which is threaded for connection with the neck portion 2 which is likewise threaded for connection with the cylindrical jacket 3 which is threaded for engagement with the cap 4. The neck portion 2 is formed with an inner annular shoulder 5 whereon a perforated metal disk 6 is seated and retained rigidly in position by an inner annular shoulder 7 formed by the inner termination of the pipe bowl 1. 7 Within the jacket 3 I provide a block 8 having a depending leg 9 that restsupon the cap 4 and divides the said block into separate compartments 10, 11, said leg dividing one straight face of the block into faces 12, 13.
r The opposite side of the block 8, with relation to the faces 12, 13, comprises the beveled surface 14 which extends from the straight surface 15 to the straight surface 16, said surfaces being disposed in parallel 19 merging into" the duct 25' piece; The block 8, further, is'provided {With a duct-26 that-leads 16 to the face 12 thereby :with the compartment 11 of Referring again to-the neck 2 the same block 8 and with a pipe constructed according g i Y which it may'drop' upon the surface 14 and planes. 'Oneedgeof the block 8 is formed :yvith-a threaded recess 17 which is positioned 1n ialinement .with a threaded aperture 18 in the jacket 3 when the leg 9 of saidblock 8:-is formed with a duct 21- that leads from lts surface 15 to the recess 17 and is in duct23-in block 8 connects the-cap compartment 10 with a duct 24 in the stem, said duct 24 and the aforesaid duct 22 of stem of the mouthfrom its; surface communicating the cap 4.
is formed with a proje'ction'27 formed with a heel'28 that rests upon the surface 15 of same. A sack-shaped screen cup 30 issecured to thediskfi anddepends below the through the disk 6 into the cup 30 from work its way, through gravity, to and through the duct 26 into the cap compart ment and any juices from fresh tobacco will, in like manner, find its way into this compartment. The lip 29 serves as an effectual barrier to prevent ashes and tobacco from Working their way into the stem 19 through the duct 21. Saliva or other moisture from the stem of the pipe will find its way, through the duct 24, to the cap compartment The compartments 10, 11 may be read ily cleansed by removing the cap 4 from the jacket. The smoke from the tobacco finds its way to the smokers mouth through the disk 6, screen cup 30, duct 21, duct 22 and duct 25. The smoke through either of the residue chambers 10 or 11. It is obvious that various changes may be made in the details of construction, and various materials may be used for forming the parts of-the pipe with ut departing can in no manner pass .rests uponthe cap 4, said threaded portions 17,18 beingadapted to receivethe threaded end of thestem 19 which is provided with -the detachablemouth-piece 20. i The block lip 29 that projects over 7 the duct21, said lip being parallel with the beveled surface 14 and spaced above the from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the claims.
What is claimed is 1. In a tobacco pipe,-
a cap the other end of said jacket, a recessed 'block within said jacket whereby the same the ducts'in said block, an apertured disk carried by said neck, a screen cup carriedby 7 said disk and disposed within said :jacket above said block, a bowl carried by said neck above said disk, anda mouth .piece'forsaid stem. r
2. In a tobacco pipe, a-jacket,-a cap atone end of said jacket, a neck-at the other end of said jacket, a block disposed within said jacket andformed with onewbeveled face, a leg integral with said block and bearing upon said cap and serving as a partition for oneend of said jacket :to form :therein two separate compartments, alstem'threaded into saidijacket and block, said, stem being formed with two separate ducts, said'block being formed with ducts leading into said separate compartments and to the ducts of said stem, a perforateddisk carriedby said neck, a screen cup carried by said disk within said jacket above the beveled, face of said block, a bowl carried by said neck above said disk, and a mouthpiece forsaid stem.
3. In a tobacco pipe, a jacket, a cap at one end of said jacket, a neck at the other end of :said jacket, a block disposed within .said jacket and formed with .one beveled face, aleg integral with said block and Copies of this patent may he obtained for an apertured'jacket, at one end of said jacket, a neck at being bearing upon said cap and serving as a partition for one endofsaid jacket to form therein two separate compartments, a stem threaded into said jacket and block, said stem being formed with two separate ducts, said block being formed with ducts leading into'the said separate oompartmentsan to the ducts of said stem, .a guard for one of the ducts of said block, a perforated disk carried by said neck, a-screen-cup-.carriediby' said disk within said jacket above the "-beveled face of-said block, a bowl carried by said neck above-said disk, and a mouthpiece for said stem. V j
4. Ina tobacco pipe, a jacket, a cap at one end of-said jacket a 'neck attheother :end'of said jacket, a'block disposed within said jacket and formed with onebeveled face,'a leg integral with said block and separatingthe same from said capwhereby one end of said -jacket is divided intotwo separate coinpartments, a stem threaded'into 7 said jacket and block, said stem being 65 formed with two separate ducts, said block formed with ducts leading into-the said separatecompartments and to the ducts of said stem, a guard for Oneduct ofsa'id block integralwith said neck, a perforated diskoarried b-ysaid neck, a screen cup-car-- riedby-said disk within said jacket above the beVeled face of said block, a -bowl ea'rried by said neck above said-disk;v and a mouth-piece for said stem. f V
